Shocker! Most people don't like paying $60 for a new videogame photo

Instead of just sitting around grumbling about not being able to afford all the great releases coming out in the next few months, GameDaily called up some gamers to listen to them grumble about not being able to afford all the great releases coming out in the next few months. Specifically, they asked console owners how they felt about Xbox 360 and PS3 game prices being set at a default of $60, compared to last generation’s $50. Understandably, not many people were all that happy about it.

Based on the national sample’s responses: 43 percent said that they would wait for games to drop in price before they’d buy them, 30 percent said they’d buy more used games, 23 percent said they would buy fewer games, 17 percent said that they would rent more games, and 17 percent said that they’d pay full price so long as it was for the “right game.”

Along with the above data, GameDaily produced another magical chart that shows purchasing trends based on gender and age. It looks like guys are far more likely to shell out $60 for a new release than the ladies are.

How has the ten dollar price hike affected your videogame buying habits? Has it lead you to buy more games for the PC and Wii, where they still retain a sub-$50 price tag?

You know, that's a pretty redundant poll. All of those options say the same exact thing - "I'll only pay what I think a game is worth", and the fact of the matter is that the $60 price tag is only a problem because most PS3 and 360 games aren't 20% better than last generation's games.

I mean hell, I've been playing World of Warcraft for over a year now, and even snagging a few free months here and there, I've easily put in at least $200 so far.

If Blizzard charged $60 for any Diablo or Starcraft game? No problem.

If Nintendo wanted $60 for Metroid Prime, or Ocarina of Time? Please, take my money.

As it's been said, people will spend the money if they think they're getting an equal (or greater) value. I can't name a single game I'd shell $60 for on the PS3 or the 360.

I think games are expensive. I would actually be ok with shorter games if they were cheaper. Games like Braid or Castle Crashers are totally worth my money. I don't care for cutscenes or crazy graphics but then again I am an old school gamer who plays games for FUN. It can be a tough concept to grasp for most people.

Never should have costed 50 in the first place. Never should have been over 40.

When you're desperate for a game you'll spend the whole $60. I'm a mexican gamer and I can say that here in Mexico the price for a next-gen game is usually $80-$90 USD. F*ck them!

The only time I spend that money in a brand new game was for Twilight Princess (GCN) and never again.

I, of course, am part of the "buy used games" and "wait for price drops" group. I bought my copy of Mass Effect when its price was $35 USD.

What annoys me is that most of the money goes to the distributors, so they can market the hell of a not so good game, like imagine babyez or some crap like that, as some titles like ICO spend their dollars on actual developing, leaving not so much to marketing, and both sell mostly the same number.
This is price fixing. why 2 disparately different games with highly different production values get to be the same price. This is price fixing. And at least where I live it's against the law.

About 90% of the next-gen games I own aren't worth the $60. If the game keeps me interested for more than 2 weeks, I feel I got my moneys worth, but a lot of this new stuff is really short, really crappy, and way too dependent on future DLC.
Also, a solid majority of DS games that are priced over $30, are NOT worth the past $30 mark. Suare/Enix, I'm looking at you here.

Hell, the best bang for my buck I've gotten this year were PS2 titles.

Again... I don't mind paying full price for top-notch games... but what's up with games like Too Human that are sub-par selling for as much as GTA IV or Lost Odyssey.
