Shocker! Batman: Arkham World is not a real thing! photo

Gamers love their mysteries, so it was hardly surprising that a Batman: Arkham World reference at the Spiked Game Video Trophies set brains afire. The reference was spotted during The Joker's CGI acceptance speech for his "Best Character" award, where he was seen holding a script for Arkham World

Surprise surprise! It's not actually a thing.

"What was referenced in Rocksteady's acceptance speech was added in good fun only," said a Warner Brothers rep, when asked by VG247.

So it turns out that the joke was ... actually a joke! What a surprise, and thank sodomy that Destructoid didn't run the original story. At least, I think we didn't. Let me keep my finger over this "Delete" button, just in case.

I'm not surprised about it, after watching the scene. I knew it was going to be a hoax.

I'm more upset by the fact that they gave Mark Hamill and Tara Strong, the pair that voiced Joker and Harley Quinn, super shitty seats at the VGA.

What a crap name that would've been...Arkham Universe sounds much cooler.

@GoofierBrute

I believe it's pronounced fac-e-palm

I still think the next game will be called something like Ghosts of Arkham. And I'm not surprised that this is a joke. It was pretty bloody obvious really..

Well it makes sense. Announce a third game so fast? And call it "Arkham World"? Really?

Well I kept telling people. But as always nobody listens to the voice of reason.

Luckily as an avid reader of Dtoid I already knew that Mark Hamill had stated publicly that Arkham City would be his last time voicing the Joker. So no, there won't be another Arkham Game featuring the Joker.

At least I beg to god that they do not try to replace Mark Hamill with somebody else.

I'd keep accidentally thinking it was "Harlem World". And then I'd be constantly wondering why someone seems to think that Ma$e is still relevant enough to warrant his own game.

Just make Batman:Gotham City with actual Batcave, Wayne tower, and real working Gotham. Maybe bat mobile...please?

Of course not, first we need Arkham Country and Arkham Continent (?)

@Alfred1337

We'd need Arkham County first, then Arkham State, then we could get to Arkham Country.

@SmileyBarry Arkham City was revealed during the 2009 VGAs just a few months after the first game's release, so some people were expecting or at least hoping for a repeat of that and they totally played to that.

Thing is, after Arkham Asylum, the fact that a sequel was already in the works was actually news. We don't need a VGA teaser trailer to tell us a third Rocksteady Batman game is on the way.

Silly people. You should all know that scripts are how the Joker plots out his evil plans.

Well, now that no one is running Arkham City, I suppose all the inmates will spill into the streets and takeover the rest of the city. I have a feeling the next game will take place in the other half of Gotham and game will just be called Batman: Gotham City, but who can be sure. They certainly aren't going to put the next Arkham on the Moon.

It was obviously a joke. Why would they choose to reveal their next game in a clip that they weren't even sure would air? They had no way of knowing whether or not Joker would win that award, since the voting was taking place during the show.

I think you're all being way too harsh on those of us who believed this true. I mean, sure, there were some facts that point otherwise, but those were latent to anyone who wasn't watching cynically. I mean... Here, read this.

The shoulders of teh characters in the Batman games look funny, the Joker's most of all. Kind of dislocated.

Come on guys stay positive, reminder at the end of the game in the steel mill in Arkham City there is a positive pregnancy test and during the credits Harley sings a song to the so called child. Is that a hint?
