Treyarch looks set to take the Call of Duty reins again in 2010, having recently posted a job advertisement for the next installment of the ludicrously popular FPS series. The team is looking for a level designer, and has indicated that, once again, its take on the CoD franchise will be a case of not-so-modern warfare.
The level designer acqired by Treyarch will need to "research subject matter for history and look of the level." This seems to betray Treyarch's intent to take us back to past as it did with World at War. Another World War II game? It seems to be what Treyarch does best, after all.
The job listing does not specifically mention World War II, so who knows? Perhaps Treyarch will do the unthinkable and be original for a rare change of pace, giving us something other than Nazis and Japanese people to kill. We shall have to see, although at the moment all signs point to another WWII extravaganza.
Do you want another WWII Call of Duty, or are you hoping that Treyarch takes us elsewhere this time around?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

@lolipantsu remember the last vietnam shooter? I fail to remember what it was called as my buddies and i call the series "on me on me" but anyway it was in the time where a half decent looking jungle was impossible and made the game fucking wank.
Maybe the current hardware could handle vietnam?
Would ne nice to play the usa at failing a war, and not learning from their mistakes, perhaps the sequel could be set in afghanistan.
It would be a nice change of pace to see these settings adapted in a game. Vietnam is so glamorized as a violent war that if IW isn't afraid to push peoples buttons on displayingdeaths of innocent people then activision shouldn't let Treyarch bat an eye at Vietnam.
Seriously. Going back to the WWII well is just going to parody how weak Treyarchs development teams are compared to IW.

Treyarch needs a new road map, they keep making a right instead of going straight past Bologna.
Maybe the Korean way might be a bit more interesting?
Overpriced Modern Warfare 2 mod confirmed.
Perhaps you are thinking of Battlefield Vietnam, or my personal favorite, Vietcong.
@ BlueDesign
Although what makes WW2 so tantalizing a war is the huge array of locales and battles to model a game after. That and M1 Garands.. i effing love that gun.
COD: Boston Tea Party
COD: Caste War (India)
COD: Mexican American War
COD: War of 1812
COD: Battle of Shiloh
COD: Mexican Drug War
COD: Fort Dix
A Vietnam game would be really interesting though, there are few good ones.
Imagine the media shitstorm of playing a japanese suicide bomber going into pearl harbor or a nazi shooting american soldiers....
They already menction they were going to make a game set in a more modern war, probably Vietnam. There is more in the past than Nazis, you know?
call of duty: war of the roses.
One of the character classes could be Danny devito
Cant forget the CCR!!!
Well lucky for you MAG, MoH: Modern warfare and the current MW games should keep you guys plenty happy.
Theres no indication that Treyarch is setting it during WWII, though other conflicts seem unlikely/difficult.
Has there been an over-abundance of WWII games recently? No.
Is modern warfare getting boring? Yes.
Does everyone enjoy shooting Nazi's? You tell me.
And Treyarch IMO is the better team, so whatever they come out with, I'm sure i'll enjoy it more than I am with MW2
Deus Ex 3 can't get here fast enough.. :\
