Shock: Final Fantasy XIII is 50 to 60 hours long photo

Wow, who'd have thought that? An RPG that is not very short! Apparently this is news, so let the proclamation be heard across the land that Final Fantasy XIII is scheduled to take up to sixty hours to beat. That's according to an interview with director Motomu Toriyama.

"For XIII, the size of the entire game is considerable," boasts the director. "Just running through the main story takes experienced players over 50 hours. For the first time, I think it's possible to play through in full in about 60 hours or so."

Considering the game was announced in 2006, it damn well better be stuffed full of content. Anyway, if you're one of those guys who get a huge hard-on over long games and need to know that something will take over ten hours to beat before putting a pre-order in, you now have you've been looking for. Go you!

50-60 hours of pure delicious pleasure. I'm sure it will take me longer, because I plan on wringing every single achievement out of this baby.

I hate when companies gauge how long it takes to play the game. I love JRPGs but ever since the length of the game started being put on the back of the box, it's become a penis type argument. "120+ HOURS OF CONTENT!" sure sounds like it's worth your money, but if I'd rather have 2 hours of joy on it's own than have it sprinkled in with 118 hours of shit.

also, JOURNALISM! XD

I hope it has as much replayability as FF12.

And i definately hope the 60 hours isn't going to be a "complete" play through with every hidden boss beat and ultimate weapons unlocked

Well, Dragon Quest 8 takes up to 100 hours. But that's because half of this time you spend grinding/walking.

I guess 50-60 hours sounds appealing but if the gameplay and story cant support that length of play then it could hinder it.

I understand your plight, Herr Sterling. Tis most unfortunate.

Though I will enjoy this game for hours indeed. In fact, considering my completionist nature, I might spend a hundred hours or more playing it.

Definitely gonna need that sexy thick strategy guide. It's for the artwork I swear! Seriously, I'm not missing out on some kick ass weapon because I opened 1 of 4 unremarkable chests scattered over dozens of hours of gameplay. I play too many games to give this one a second play. Zodiac Spear!

This better not be 50-60 hours of grinding...

Why is the length of the game so important these days? Chrono Trigger was only about 15-20 hours long, depending on how much of the optional sidestuff you did. I'm far more willing to replay that game again than an 60 hour epic RPG filled with repetetive grinding.

But who knows, maybe they've actually added some interesting content to justify the length of this game.

Good, but they it's probably closer to 40 for the average gamer, remember them saying this about Final Fantasy X too, but that story lasts 30-40 hours.
It's the side-quests that matters, they better be good

Yeah, I am actually a bit surprised it's not more.

My first playthrough of Tales of Vesperia I pretty much did the cliche "go back to the town you were just in" and completed many of the sidequests, got all the "epic" weapons, etc and it took me about 105 hours.

As long as 50% of that isn't grinding I'll be happy.

I thought all Final Fanasties are usually that long? But I can never really tell because I always grind to 99 my first playthrough.

My attention span usually doesn't tolerate anything above 20 hours, but I make exceptions for certain titles like FF. Sounds good.

As long as at least 40 hours of that isn't shit-tastic sidequests and minigames, I'll be one happy camper. Minigames are one of the worst things to happen to RPGs in modern memory...

what Electrium said.
they better not be padding it with unnecessary transitions and inane sidequests and minigames.

Let me just say that I think the combat looks pretty exciting and the graphics are amazing, but all of the trailers have indicated to me about the story is that it's ridiculous and over melodramatic generic JRPG cliche'd shit pile and that the whole theme of "magic and science as one" has been done to death in this series and needs a big shake up. I don't want to sit through 50-60 hours of a game in which the story just pisses me off at how its desperately trying and failing to be emotionally profound and sweepingly epic.

I don't care what anyone says, I played FF for the story. Well, I played X and VII for the story anyway (those are the only ones I've beaten but I loved them both). I think I'll just wait for Versus XIII which actually looks at least somewhat aesthetically different.

What percentage of this will be battling wave after wave of enemies way beyond your level? I'd love to get some hacked FFVII with no random encounter type "battles" and adjusted experience. I could at last finish that (great in many other parts) game!

I will be a happy camper if those 50 to 60 hours is the main game and not with those side quest included.

I remember when the back of the Xenosaga box said it would take 70 hours (more or less) to beat, but I beat it in 20 hours so yeah...

Ah, just because its long doesn't make it a good game. Hopefully it will be though.
But I think I'm with "silvain" I'll wait til its a lot cheaper then buy it used.

I said it on Kotaku and I'll say it here: No game branded an RPG should be 10hours long or less.. Frankly when any one buys an RPG they're signing their soul away, specially if that game is named Final Fantasy.

I really can't wait for this.

They also claimed FFVII and VIII would be '100 hours long' when you could do everything they had to offer in 50-ish. Hell, a particular feature of FFIX had you finishing the game in less than 20.
50-60 hours? I can see them pulling it off, they've managed it before, but only when they've claimed they were doing 80-100. If they're now claiming 50-60, I'm guessing it will actually be 30-40.

Well it seems like most modern JRPGs only last about 30hrs, so 60hrs is pretty long. I feel tempted by this game, but I am really going to try and resist. I have been disappointed by every FF game since 10.
