In news that will surprise only people who have never heard of Germany before, it has come to light that Dead Island's been banned ... in Germany!
Deep Silver is not surprised, gamers are not surprised, and I doubt the German authorities are surprised. The publisher hadn't even bothered to distribute Techland's zombie slasher to the country, but officials have still slapped a "List B" designation on it, making the game an illegal product.
"This isn't unexpected," said a rep for the game. "Germany has its unique regulations regarding video games and violence and the industry can only comply. Both Deep Silver and Techland were aware of such a possibility from the very beginning."
The world continues on!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

You don't need to feel sorry for us in Germany. We know what we are doing.
I'm old enough to buy and play Dead Island, I just ordered it from Amazon.
The only thing - they wanted to see my ID-Card, because to purchase this game I have to be older than 18!
Lets face it, games like Dead Island does not belong into the hands of kids. Thats the reason for keeping them out of normal stores.
and i think, thats ok.
By the way, the games they'banned' have been avaiailable for adults. There have been a couple of games totally banned (not even allowed to own it) - whatever I have seen and heard about this games, banning them have been ok.
Blame the developers for their sick minds.
Banned games are still allowed to be owned and played. You may even buy them. Every shop may even sell them. So what is not allowed:
- No Ads anywhere
- No showcase for the games
- No selling to minors
That's it. As long as the customers asks for the game and can proof his age (18 at least) he can buy it. And you can still order it from Amazon.co.uk which is cheaper than any shop in Germany anyway.
So please get your facts straight before posting such nonsense.
