Shiny skin time: new Tekken 6 PS3/Xbox 360 screens photo

Why is it that the latest crop of 3D fighting games' characters all have super shiny skin? Is it just that these fighters are all so well toned and fit that they sweat uniformly, enabling them to have a body constantly covered with a shiny gloss? Or is it so the lighting effects look cooler?

Even though fighting game fans have been tapping away at Tekken 6 in arcades, the home version is still about a year away from release. Although it probably won't do the trick as far as holding you over goes, here are a few new screenshots from the console version (PS3 and Xbox 360) of Tekken 6, scheduled to drop in autumn of 2009.

The 1080p iron fisting action all looks pretty good. I find it funny that most of these images feature someone being blown back by an attack.

Shiny skin has been around since the last generation. You just have to look at sports games instead.

This game looks detailed, expensive, and ugly; like bad plastic surgery.

Why is Gears so shiny yet hailed for its amazing graphics... All smoke and mirrors if you ask me.

While on the other hand Half-Life 2 is called "dated"

I think half-Life 2(and this is coming from a newb to the series) looks better than most newer games around thanks to its more toned down textures. It has a warmth of realism to it that other games don't have.

As a persona who actually played Tekken 6 at the arcades, I can tell you that they're not as shiny as the pics lead you to believe. Tekken just has this odd feature in which every time you punch someone fireworks burst out of people's arms lol.

Do yourself a favor and watch the HD vids of the game being played, better yet see the game in person, it's gorgeous. The game runs perfectly smooth (1080p @ 60fps). Sure it ain't as amazing as say MGS4 or Crysis, but it sure beats out most games currently in the market. That includes the buggy yet lauded game people are hyper-ventilating about, GEARS of WAR 2.

Sorry Tekken, don't feel bad it's not you or anything.... I mean Tekken 3 was some great times but I feel it's time I moved on. The relationship has become stagnant, it doesn't feel fresh or exciting anymore.

I'm sorry Tekken, I don't know how to say this but.... I've found someone else.

@Pupply Licks

I don't know about you puppy licks, but there more than enough room for multiple fighters

I've played Tekken 6, Street Fighter IV, Blaz Blue, and Arcana Hearts 2. All top notch in my opinion.

I didn't forget about KOFXII, I just haven't played it. I got I hope it's good.

We're seriously lacking in fighting games, the more the merrier I say. I agree that Tekken 4 and 5 (with the exception of Resurrection) hasn't really helped the Tekken image, but Tekken Dark Resurrection and Tekken 6 have done a pretty good job at bringing back old Tekken fans and of course new young fighter fans. I suggest you play Tekken 6, before you make any more assumptions regarding the current quality of the Tekken franchise.

I'd rather shiny skin than a crushed ballsack.

I played it, and SF4, and I love both. I'm gonna buy them both.

Byrc: Oh don't get me wrong, I am still plenty excited for other fighters (Blaz Blue especially) and I am so happy that the genre is being revitalised, but Tekken for me seems less of a priority for me now. I dunno, it seems a bit of same-old same-old I guess.

Then again that's just my opinion, guess my taste in fighters had changed eh? :P

Look like they took a page from pro wrestling and male strippers. and the Tekken Fighters just started oiling up before a fight (not that I'd know anything about male strippers).

Still this is on my most wanted list for next year. since you can never have enough fighting games.

I haven't played a Tekken since Tekken Tag, so I'm somewhat anticipating the blown back shiny fighting.

I'm hoping for some sort of evolution from then, and no bullshit DLC please.
