Shining Force teaser site is up and teasing photo

Have any of you youngins out there played the original Shining Force? It's that RPG on all those Sega collections that you keep thinking you really should play, but Altered Beast keeps distracting you because you think it really can't be as bad as you remember it. The entire Shining series is a bit of a roller coaster quality wise, but it seems that Sega is bringing it back again and hopefully it will play more to its roots than recent games in the series. A Japanese teaser site has popped up for the game and is currently showing a bunch of moon text and some numbers. Using ancient methods of translation we have determined that the numbers are indeed representations for the date April 17, 2009, when one can assume more information will be released about the game.

If this is truly a full fledged rebirth of the series than it is really exciting news. I know Jim would want it to be a DS or PSP game, but I can't help but imagine an all out platform release returning Sega back to its glorious RPG days. Plus, they just released Shinging Force Feather for the DS in Japan in February. PS3, Wii or 360 would work for me as long as it reminded me why I'd spend hours with 2D sprites and no CGI when I was a kid.

I'm starting to get the feeling that I'm the only one who enjoys Altered Beast... don't get me wrong, it's not a great game by any means, but it is at least okay.

oh right, Shining Force: I've never played it so I don't really... care...

The Shining series led to some of my first really positive experiences with RPGs. It would be really nice if this reboot was a success.

I actually liked the dungeon crawler spin off the Shining Force series. The action rpg spin offs were great too. Ironically I found the actual turn based rpg strategy games to be somewhat lukewarm.

But fuck all of that, what were you saying about Altered Beast?

I loved the hell out of the second one. I didn't have a Genesis at the time it was released, but did eventually get one from an uncle who had a bit of a drug addiction and needed to sell his for his habit (in my defense, I didn't know that at the time). For whatever reason, he had Shining Force 2. I was hooked right from the beginning.

And yes, I fell into the Altered Beast trap. Don't get me wrong...I kinda-sorta like the game. But not as much as I did back in the day. I just got the 360 Genesis collection, and what did I do? Ignored a game I sunk many hours of my life into and played Altered Beast. What the hell is up with that?

Why tease when we have already seen ingame footage?

If only it were all the chapters of Shining Force III localized for the DS...

Shining Force 2 is still one of my favorite games. Every now and then I hook my genesis back up solely to play that game. So I would love to see something like that again. Also, I would like to see Shining Force Feather localized.

Man. "Shining In The Darkness" was the first RPG that I ever played and completed. I LOVED that game. I missed the next 900 games though so just got Shining Force on the Wii. Do the PS2 games suck then??

SF I and II were completely classic; after that the series fell off in quality. Here's hoping they can restore SF to its former glory!

If Shining Force Feather is an indication on the direction Sega is re-aiming the Shining series, I'm looking forward to this announcement especially since it does indicate the . Makes me want to go back and play the first one (I really wish I have the second one T_T)

What do you mean no CGI didn't you play the Sega CD version? Anyway, I would make a firm bet this is for the Consoles and not the handhelds.

I would be willing to play the turn based version however I doubt they would do that this day and age. Though then again they do have Valkyrie Chronicles.

Other than pokemon games, my Shining Force game on my Game Gear has had more play on it than any other portable game I have ever had. I have been awaiting another one as addictive as that one was for me.

Hah, I remember playing the Game Gear one forever ago. It was like Fire Emblem ages before a Fire Emblem game ever came out here.

Shining Force left its roots after Shining Force 3, assholes didn't even bring Parts 2 & 3 stateside. Shining Force 2 was my favorite in the series though and I never bothered to play it after it left the strategy rpg genre. So this would be great news if it goes back.

I wan the second one to be made for the psp or ds. Also I would pay good money if they brought out the 3 one and all three parts to the virtual counsel or one of the other system for down load.

Oh snap! I was so addicted to Shining Force back in the day. Awesome game, and I hope it comes to the DS.

@Trowble - what do you mean they never brought 2 or 3 stateside? I played 2 on the Genesis and 3 on the Saturn... Unless you are talking about something else?
