Remember yesterday when we helped spread the rumor that a Shin Megami Tensei MMO was possibly picked up for North American release? Today it has been confirmed that Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine is coming to North America and Europe!
Aeria Games will release Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online to the European and North American markets in four languages: English, Spanish, German, and French. Cave Co. originally released the title in 2007 in Japan. Since then, "MegaTen" has become a huge success with a dedicated following.
Set in a fictional post-apocalyptic Tokyo, survivors attempt to restore the city by defeating demons and solving puzzles. Each player acts as a “Devil Buster.” Success relies on forming an alliance with demons or slaying them.
- Strategic Real-time Fighting System - Choose between attacking, parrying and defending in real time.
- Diverse Weaponry – Use a wide array of weapons from medieval swords to modern-day rifles and handguns.
- Devil Partnership – Players negotiate with devils to assist in battle and missions.
- Devil Fusing – Players can combine multiple devils to create new breeds. •
- Private Dungeons – In addition to the public battle areas, players can access private dungeons to hunt and collect items with their friends.
They don't list a release date in the press release, but do drop the word "soon." All I know is that "soon" is not soon enough.
Needless to say, I'm insanely excited. How about you?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Level 99 Jack Frost, here I come.
fantastic! Everyone can now grind on pounds of cellulite.
I agree Gen Eric, I've avoided the temptation to play an MMO for so long, but I <3 the SMT series, soooo....
THIS IS NOT A GOOD GAME.
This is a crappy free2play Asian MMO, that will most likely have a very low fanbase and very little support. Not only that the game focuses on you paying for your shit with real money.
Anybody whose actually played asian free2play mmo's can tell you that sooner or later you will have to pump some money in your character to get anything done.
I"m sorry this game is shit, unless of course you're one of those people who play those crappy free2play asian mmo's.
Honestly folks, this game is not going to be good, and its not going to have the support necessary to keep the game fresh and glitch free unlike big time mmo's like Warhammer or WOW.
I'm more interested in P4, hopefully we'll see a new SMT game on a next gen console, SMT4 FTW!
Or if you like the game, you buy the things you need/want and support the devs.
Just because you don't like -other- generic eastern MMO's doesn't mean that nobody can ever enjoy them. Obviously somebody out there does, or they wouldn't keep making the things.
I'm willing to give it a shot. I like SMT and despite the fact that somebody else is publishing the game, it's still an Atlus in-house title. I'm willing to spend the couple minutes of my time to set up an acocunt and at least try the damn thing.
But I do love..MegaTen...;_;
What makes any of you think this will be any different/better from the hundreds of MMORPGs out there now that you don't play because they are all boring generic grindfests?
Have you even looked at the other games that company publishes? Seems like a whole bunch of generic, iffy looking nothing.
I think I'll just apply the same reaction that the KotOR MMO got, which is "No thanks, how about a proper game". And that one is even coming from a decent company.
If you don't like it, then don't play it. You're in the minority thinking the MegaTen games are boring.
Oh, I'm sorry if my opinion matches other peoples. My bad that I'm not "edgy" enough for you. Grrr hate hate grr. If it's a terrible game, time will tell. How you got to play it already is beyond me.
On another note imagine if you had a Persona 3 like MMO where you gotta do well in school, take art classes and make friends in order to kick ass. that be fucking brilliant! Learn something, be sociable and fight demons. Cool.
Most of the MMOs out there, especially these free to play things, are frankly shit. I don't see any reason why this would be an exception.
And now they're bringing a MegaTen MMO to the Anglosphere.
I was bored of grinding cash in real life anyway.
The only place I could see any rating of it is on Amazon.jp, where it has 8 reviews giving it 2 stars. Maybe Amazon isn't that popular in Japan though, not sure. The "huge success with a dedicated following" is from the press release.
Anyway, have a video. Lots of running and some ropey animations to look at. clicky.
