Shigeru Miyamoto to receive the BAFTA Fellowship photo

Shiggy will receive the Fellowship at this year’s GAME British Academy Video Games Awards.

The guy who created Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong should get as many awards as possible, as far as I'm concerned. BAFTA's Fellowship is the "highest accolade the Academy can bestow on an individual for their creative work." Previous winners include Hitchcock and Kubrick. Now Nintendo's General Manager of Entertainment, Shigeru Miyamoto, will officially join their ranks at the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards, which will take place on the 19th of March.

Miyamoto on the award:

I am very grateful to be able to receive such an honourable award from the British Academy. Our video games cannot be created by one person; since Donkey Kong until the most recent New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I have been working closely with a number of friends for three decades in order to develop fun and enjoyable games. I would like to receive this honourable award on behalf of all of these dependable colleagues.

Congrats, Miyamoto. I dig your games. Even Nintendogs!

Shigsy deserves it. I doubt we'll see another entertainment master for decades.

Well deserved!
Unlike any of the nominees for the other GAME BAFTA award... I think the only 2 contenders that should have a chance are Batman: AA or Uncharted 2 (from what I've heard people say of them), but knowing most gamers MW2 will win.

That picure of him is pretty epic. Oil in canvas worthy.

That’s because it's unlikely for people like Shigeru to actually get the same position he has in this day and age. He even said it him self.

If anyone's games can be considered "art," it is Shiggy's games. Not in the "this is beautiful" or "what an incredible expression of the human condition" kind of way, but more in the "we have this incredible new way of connecting with people. Let's push the boundaries on what separates games from other mediums" kind of way.

Kudos Miyamoto! I don't even want to know what the video game industry would look like without you.

He sounds very humble in accepting that reward. Especially saying that he's worked with friends in making these titles. I don't support the whole game god idea, especially since it tajes slot of people to make a game, miyamoto certainly deserves that award.

He surely deserves more awards. This guy is the most talented and successful creative of the new digital era, or something along those lines.

While that's true, it's also down to originality - Shigsy pulled his ideas from his life, rather than from competitors, which is what developers tend to do these days.

BAFTA = The British Academy of Film and Television Arts. I should not have had to "google" that. I love Destructoid but some articles are a little TOO stripped down.

It baffles me how much his butt gets kissed considering his fairly derogatory remarks about westerners. Don't get me wrong, I've been enjoying his games since puberty, but the man assumes I'm a cave-dwelling savage because I'm American. I'll hold my kudos.

Miyamoto deserves every bit of praise he gets. I honestly don't think there's another developer out there as respected and well-known as he is.

First, if the Etruscans were indeed Trojans, then the fact that the Magliano disk is the only object resembling the Phaistos disk clearly suggests that they came from the same cultural tradition, though perhaps some 700 years apart--i.e., that the Phaistos disk is Trojan.
