Licensed games, there's a reason they suck. Most of the time they are pathetic rush jobs and just an excuse to make an easy buck while never putting that much effort in quality control. I'm used to this, I understand the facts of life. In all my years of gaming, I've come to accept the culture of greed.
But, that doesn't stop me hating whoever the f*ck was responsible for ruining my favorite show on TV, The Shield, with this awful video game version. OK, hate is a strong word, but still, whoever made this deserves a swift kick in the baby-making pouch. There are just certain things you don't mess with and The Shield is one of them.
Think I'm joking around? Look at these videos of the gameplay. Pathetic, right? Next time, please, don't even bother making a game based on such a kick-ass show like The Shield if you aren't gonna do it right. I wish Vic Mackey were real and I wish he'd see this and give the people responsible for this a hot grill to the face.
Rob I totally agree I love the Shield and have actually seen every episode....
God Damn whoever is responsible for this abonination. (though Im not sure if I will watch anymore after the horrible grenade in the car scene...it was like WTF MFer's)
Everyone needs to play this game. The first level involves running around an abandoned house kicking doors. Vic gets mad when a door won't budge and says, "Damned door." Kicking it again has him saying, "Won't budge." Kicking it again has him yelling, "God damned door." Doing this over and over again is hilarious for no good reason whatsoever. One door that requires a key won't open with repeated kicks, but effortlessly opens with the door knob.
Then some guy name Goma comes home (not the spider boss from Ocarina of Time) and you have the opportunity to kill him and plant a gun in his hand or take him in by the book. I chose the former.
Then, you run around the precinct aimlessly and luckily, you can kick doors there. Vic will go on his "God damned door" rants again, so this is good news.
Once you escape the precinct (and I do mean escape -- the shit is horrible maze of nightmares), you go to the barrio on a stealth mission. I don't know what happens next, because after getting spotting three or four times and having to restart the mission, I pressed reset so I could go back to Goma's apartment and kick doors.
Well, I do feel bad for all the fans of the show that this has turned into a game...watched a couple episodes and it was pretty good. BUT, this looks like a pretty well put together game. Terrible? It looks pretty decent for a final fleeting PS2 game. That snooping in the cabinets for evidence is pretty nifty...
Never seen the series but it got a 'Holland "Dutch" Wagenbach' a guy who has a name with two references to the Netherlands, so it must be good. Still a bit puzzled by his last name sounds German to me....
Only able to watch the second video (Damn firefox). But it's not like the graphics are terrible. It just looks un original. Which is too bad because the Shield is a great show. What makes the show stand out on TV doesn't transfer well into games I'm afraid.
"(though Im not sure if I will watch anymore after the horrible grenade in the car scene...it was like WTF MFer's)"
The best scene to date from the show may make you not watch it anymore? I know two grown men who cried because of it. I can't wait for the next season. Everybody's seen the new ad on FX right? Fucking epic.
Now if they could just hire someone new to rearrange the whole show's soundtrack...

Dreaming of Chikliss could solve so many problems in this world.
Important point is that he's employed elsewhere now. Glad he got off of this sinking ship of a project.

the wire - garbage
curb your enthusiam - you listed this show?
extras - wtf is extras?
the shield is easily better than the first three i've listed here, without contest.
although i don't think it's on par with heroes, it's easily better than the rest, including Rome.

Extras is the show by Ricky Gervais (creator and Boss on the Office) on BBC and HBO. It is dry british humor but it's freaking hilarious. Best moments in the series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGf9Hc-KpAA & this one's a little long but the payoffs good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIZnxDnflLQ
