Shepard should take a break, lay off the brains photo

Chances are the majority of you, the Destructoid readers, are fast asleep or drunk and dressed like a vampire right now. It’s OK, we understand -- the Halloween season is happening right now. But if you find yourself not in the mood, check out the above Mass Effect 2 image because it might just tickle you in the right ways.

This festive image jogged my memory. Before E3 happened, an issue of Official Xbox Magazine teased advanced ME2 information. The cover, of course, had a shot of a pale and tired Commander Shepard. I immediately thought zombie, but didn’t mention it in our post.

Then, at E3, I saw essentially the same image in the West Hall. It was bigger and had better quality. The same thought occurred to me again. I remember asking Anthony to snap a few more photos of the entrance-side stuff for me to go along with the shot Nick took of the outside banner advertisement. The plan was to just to show all of you how terrible Shepard was looking. And, well, that went to hell after I saw the demo behind-closed-doors.

But, anyway, this is a much more brutal shot of what I was thinking at the time, and a good one to boot considering the holiday. If only those banners had the wicked gaping wounds -- I bet that would have gotten a massive rise out of people at the event.

Awake, sober and in my normal attire. I've had something of a pathetic evening of playing Borderlands on one monitor and watching 30 Rock on another.

Uh, yeah, ME2, cool stuff.

Some of us also have the privilege of staying up all night working on lab reports and other assorted school nonsense. No vampire costume, definitely not drunk, and obviously not asleep. I do have to say that the header image is certainly an accurate depiction of how I feel right now...working at the desk next to my bed...trying to ignore its siren song...

@CWal37:: If Ice-T is being honest, then there's nothing pathetic about spending an evening with Borderlands...

Dunk as in Brad is going to dunk your ass into a basketball hoop if you point out any errors.

I've read the books and I reckon it's red sand. Maybe you get get loaded in ME2?

Red sand is a stimulant with biotic-enhancing properties... When taken nasally, red sand creates a brief but intense euphoria, and gives the user very short-term telekinetic biotic abilities. Side effects include red-tinting of the user's vision, discolouration of the teeth and longer-term withdrawal symptoms. Red sand is normally sold in small bags. The slang expression for using it is "dusting up" or being "sand-blasted".

Thanks for the school. But Shepard looks like someone removed a chunk in his face.

Or... well, his Halloween costume is...

"Sarah Connor?"

You know who else had glowing red eyes and extensive surgery in the mass effect universe? His name starts with an "s", and ends with "aren"

Haha, poor miss hamilton :(
The cuts are a bit confusing. They could just be new scar decals but then they do look like they may be bleeding a little bit and his cheek it glowing red a bit too. I'm hoping it has something to do with red sand but then again it could also just be a dream sequence where Shepard's mind is reflecting on the fact that he's going on a suicide mission.

INT. NORMANDY - DREAM SEQUENCE

SHEPARD awakens groggily. Lifting himself from his bed he makes his way to the bathroom. After washing his hands and splashing his face he looks up and closes the cabinet door to see his zombified reflection.

SHARP CUT

INT. NORMANDY - (AINT NO DAY OR NIGHT IN SPACE!)

SHEPARD wakes abruptly in a heavy sweat.

Classic dream sequence.

It's probably just what he looks like if you take the "Dark Side" path, kind of like what happens in Fable. I'm crazy about how the game is shaping up. It looks much prettier than the first, at the very least.

Dammit now I need to read the books.

Anyway zombie is an interesting theory since the teaser said someone had died.

You know who I hate? I hate Kaidan. Just sayin'. In fact I think Bioware [spoiler?] gave me the option to kill Kaidan because they knew how annoying he was. Just sayin'.

Kaiden was terrible, I never put him in my partiy unless I had to. And those lingering glances between him and my very hetero male Shepard....

Not to sound conspiracy-theorist, but don't the scars circle just about his entire face...almost as if it's been grafted on, 70s-B-movie-robot-style? Those eyes look like they've got circuitry behind them (as well as that red glow), so could we not be looking at a zombie, but a potential mechanical doppleganger? Those look like very deliberate scars - they almost looks like an imprint of Saren's facial structure (with the hollow jaw and all).

I doubt it's a 'dark path' thing, though. That sort of thing made sense in KotOR because of the Force, but it's a little out of place in ME.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that every time they read 'Shepard' hears it in Wrex's voice....

On topic... I only want to know one thing about ME2... and that's whether it'll actually run properly; cause as an experience ME1 is way up there... as a game it was a technical mess, like GTA4 but the other way around... that was a technical triumph... but boring as hell to play.

1) Shepard apparently has to get some help from Cerberus in this game. In ME1 they did tests with Thorian Creepers, Rachni and maybe those electric zombies (forget their name).

Maybe Shepard gets tested on somehow.

2) Saren kind of looked like this after Sovreign "implanted" him. Right before his skin fell off and he went ape**** on you.

Just thinkin'

I can't even stand how excited I am for this game. As soon as my 360 comes back from the repair center (damn you MS), I can finish my 3rd playthrough of ME1 and get all the achievements. Then it will just be a couple short months til ME2!

Im more interested in the scars than the glowyness. That's the basic, standard create a character face, and there was no option to alter it in the first one, it was either take it or make a new one. This makes me wonder if we'llk be able to either edit the basic face, or if scarring can occur in real time like fable
