The amazing part is that the song is way better than most of whatever passes for music even in the idealist realm of indie rock. Yes, Sufjan, that 50 States gimmick was clever for a moment or two, but you never wrote a song about forklift races, did you?

This made me really sentimental for shenmue, and reminded me that i spend the last hour of shenmue 2 walking to a tree and talking to some hobag. Where the fuck is shenmue 3?
i like this now lets shove it in Yu Suzuki and sega's face so they make Shenmue III since i'll probably be a grandad by the time it comes out and im only 18 now

well, sufjan does songs about woodpeckers and bees and superman and serial murderers and ufos and jesus and zombies and abe lincon and the wholesome joy of christmas and adalei stevenson and casmir palauski. oh, and whole 50 state thing he's pretty much given up on. he may do a few more himself, do some with other artists, or just pass the torch to other artists completely. even he has to realize it was really pretentious.
