During Apple's live event today, Epic Games president revealed its first iDevice game, which will be powered by the Unreal Engine 3. It's codenamed "Project Sword," and it's being developed by Chair Entertainment, the folks behind the supremely awesome Xbox Live Arcade title, Shadow Complex.
As the codename suggests, Project Sword is a one-on-one sword fighting game. The game will support multiplayer and Apple's Game Center achievements. It also happens to look absolutely stunning, but why don't you see for yourself? If you've got an iPhone or an iPad, a demo of the Unreal Engine running on iOS 4 on iTunes right freakin' now. It's called "Epic Citadel," but you can find it by searching "Project Sword." Or, you can just get it here; full details on the demo project, which took about eight weeks to develop, can also be found online.
What do you think? Impressed?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
"How about a SWORDFIGHTING GAME FOR THE IPHONE"
thats a real conversation that happened.
Yes, and I agree with complaints, because I would rather them make more games or streamline development on platforms WITH BUTTONS. Project Sword might have piqued my interest, but all touch controls means I tune out, and I know I'm not alone in this. Good for iDevices, but bad for actual game systems, as Chair can do good stuff.
*sheds tear*
"I almost literally through my controller..."
Talk about awful writing.
Hahahaha
Probably because the iPhone is more powerful than the Wii.
Zing!
(No, I don't really believe that, it was just too easy to pass up.)
@hpv
You are a fucking idiot. Also, I hate you.
*sigh*
There is so much potential. So much potential! (The lighting, the textures, even the reflections were all spot on)
Also, looks like the first couple of posters cant afford iDevices. Being an avid iPhone gamer (do those even exist yet?) I must say this is fantastic.
P.S. The demo on iPad is sexy as!
this shit looks better than the wii, better than the psp, better than the 3ds...i cant believe it!! i cant wait to see games using this tech. i cant fucking believe it. a bayonetta like game or a devil may cry for this fucking shit would be so fucking awesome.
fuck, if this shit looked this good on my ipod, i cant imagine this in an iphone 4 with retina display and shit O__O
again O__O
I for one own one and I think this is a waste of fucking time. There's some games that work fine on a crappy touchscreen. Honestly though, it's completely impractical. Fingers get in the way. God forbid I have to tap something multiple times because the screen didn't respond.
If people want to buy this shit, that's fine. Buy all the shitty iGames you want, but I honestly think we would be better off having games developed for gaming platforms - since you know, that's what they are for.
@lastSKY - I'm really surprised at some of the dynamic lighting effects. I wonder if Epic even attempted to get a psp version of the engine running.
Imagine how it would look on a freaking 3DS.
