SFIV controllers will be hard to get, even if you pre-ordered photo

It’s no secret that Mad Catz had a limited manufacturing run of their Street Fighter IV Fight Sticks and Gamepads. The small numbers are indicative of a company that isn’t used to its name being associated with quality. It’s a perception (and perhaps a corporate culture) that Mad Catz wants to change. As Ars’ Ben Kuchera pointed months ago, Mad Catz is hot for gamer redemption and the SFIV controllers are the first step.

Unfortunately, there's a problem with this new beginning. The limited run of the controllers isn’t going to simply hurt the people looking to buy on impulse. It’s also going to smack those core consumers who want it the most and were willing to give Mad Catz products another shot -- the people pre-ordering.

Last night we received a Game Crazy memo from an anonymous source. According to the memo, the retailer is expecting pre-order shortages due to a “channel wide issue.” It goes on to explain that pads will “trickle in over the next 6 weeks to fill all preorders.” Those who don’t get their stuff on the first day will get a lovely parting gift: a SFIV wall scroll which Mad Catz has already packed in the initial shipments.

We verified the delays with several stores nationwide, but weren’t able to ascertain how “wicked cool” the wall scrolls are. Most of the Game Crazys we called have their initial shipment of controllers in, but they won’t be able to sell them before launch.

The controllers that will be experiencing the nastiest delays are the Xbox 360 Akuma Gamepad and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 Tournament Edition Fight Sticks. Additional shipments of the products will go out on February 23, however the final shipments won’t go out until March 30. If you're a Zangief fan, that's a long time to wait.

Well, that could suck. I ordered a Fightstick (not the Tournament Edition because I'm not that hardcore... And they weren't selling it anymore) from Amazon. Still, a bonus wallscroll would be awesome.

Yeah I cancelled my Best Buy order after it got delayed to the 15th. It's now been delayed to the first of March, and I couldn't care less because the fight pads are full of win.

Ballz. I pre-ordered the Akuma and Ryu fightpads for X360 from amazon a while back and their current estimate is that I won't receive them until the 25th. That wouldn't be too bad if I didn't know that my Best Buy has them in the store right now (albeit not the Akuma or Ryu ones).

Oh well. I can wait.

I bought the Chun 360 Fightpad from bestbuy on wednesday, walked right in and bought it. The 360 TE stick was preordered through amazon on dec. 8th. It's expected to be delivered on the 26th and I'd be mighty sad if I didn't get it :(

I got my fightsticks the other day. The Non TE edition ones. The TEs were sold out by the time I went to order :(

I picked up one for xbox and one for ps3 so I can play on both!

I just got my wonderful 150 dollar fightstick today.

It's epic. :D

As for all the controllers, the store I work for (Gamestop) Was the only one in the area to get them because me and my manager pre-ordered them about 6 months ago or so. Who knows though, I figured with the economy the lack of sticks would be evident.. and I thought I wouldnt even see mine until next week myself.

Lucky Me.

this game better be the second coming of Christ after all these people dropping hundreds of dollars for it and something to play it with.

Hardly surprising to me considering how long it took to get my RB bass from them. I used to be the first guy to slam on Mad Katz quality, but I have to say the bass has been amazing. If they want to turn over a new leaf and take some pride in their products and company (the Mad Katz logo was a tiny little thumb nail hidden on the back of the box on the bass, like they were afraid people wouldn't buy the thing if they realized it was Mad Katz) then more power to them.

Just bought a chun-li fighting pad on the PS3 from the store at which I work. It's cool that it's wireless, but I'm not as keen on the d-pad as I expected to be. It might be because it's been a long ass time since I played with anything other than the dual shock controllers...

The factories are creating more 24 hours a day, due to unprecidented demand.Soon, the market will be saturated with tat instead of going for 500 dollars on ebay.

you know what I don't care! I'm not going to run out trying to get one these controllers, due to some premeditated hype by MadCatz. The quality of the controller may be better than the usual MadCatz product, however to go along with that, they've included some artificial Hype. If you don't have enough, then MAKE SOME MORE!!!!!!!

Why is it that I actually want them now - I mean two of them - and now they don't have any for sale? They have to be making some more, because this is ridiculous.

If only Microsoft wouldn't be such money grubbing assholes then this wouldn't even be the slightest of problems.

Why cannot I use my Tankstick stick with my 360?

I hope they do another run of those Tournament Edition arcade sticks. Like an idiot I waited for them to announce their release in Australia, but of COURSE WE'RE NOT GOING TO GET FUCKING ANYTHING YET AGAIN.

Time to hit eBay I guess. Fucking shit dicks.

Listening to Giant Bomb a couple weeks ago, they went to the SF4 party and Capcom had no idea they'd be so popular and have been making more in conjunction with Madcatz so don't worry :P

If I had a huge hard-on for SFIV this news would be grim to me. However, I lost interest in SF when I saw MKII. I'll occasionally play a bit, but I got bored with the cartoony graphics and the lack of blood..
I did enjoy my dreamcast arcade stick for Soul Caliber. But that was the only game I played on it.

Look around. I'm sure there's an Xbox/PS3 arcade stick out there... It would be even cooler to make your own. doesn't X arcade make a stick for consoles?

And if what some of you say are true, then there's no worries.

If I had ordered one I'd be pretty darned mad, but I really have no use for this stick since it uses Sanwa parts, and I am a devoted Happ fanboy. It's a shame that Mad Catz, and American company, got the rights to release joysticks in the Western market, and yet they chose not to service the customers who prefer the feel of western-made arcade parts. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to keep rockin' out with my ugly-but-oh-so-good home made stick for the time being.
