Sexy Time! Metal Gear Solid 3 photo

[Sexy Time! is a regular series where we take a look at some of the more, shall we say, erotic aspects of video games. It also gives us a reason to post images such as the above. You're welcome.]

Anything that we as humans take even a little seriously is fodder for humor. Considering that the physical act of intercourse goes to the very root of our being as a biological imperative, it's one of the ripest topics for making jokes. That fruit hangs so low you can practically trip over it.

Since Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is basically a James Bond rip-off, there would almost have to be a considerable level of sexual theatre involved in it. But Kojima's penchant for absurd humor manages to leak its way in as well, blending the two in a manner that I doubt anybody quite saw coming.

In this scene, we see Snake and Eva in the waterfall cave just following Snake's escape from Groznyj Grad. The full cutscene actually features a fairly touching sequence wherein the pair exchange a few suggestive comments and then kiss, but the romance goes right out the window in this bit. Discovering that Snake has a transmitter embedded in his body, Eva goes to great lengths to remove it from his body.

The cutscene is brilliant for a number of reasons. Kojima's use of the pair in shadows on the cave wall, so often used in film that it has become a cliché, gives him a license to get more than a little absurd with the events. Coupled with the grunting noises and innuendo so heavy you'd need a crane to lift it, it's just downright funny.

Another interesting aspect of the scene is that you can easily play the game and never encounter it, because its appearance is based on inaction. The transmitter on Snake's body is visible from the Cure Menu (the pause screen where Snake can perform first aid on himself) and can be removed at any time using a fork absconded from his cell at Groznyj Grad. If removed, Ocelot Unit soldiers who are looking for him will not appear out of the blue and attack, which is helpful. Of course, removing it means that this portion of the scene in the cave does not appear.

I wonder how many people missed out on seeing this as a result. I know from my personal experiences that I'm obsessive about healing any injury Snake has and it was probably only by accident (or an very lucky run through the jungle without taking much damage) that I had the good fortune to view it.

A friend told me "Yeah, don't remove the transmitter. Trust me. You'll thank me for it".

I thanked him for it.

Wow, I had no idea. I always removed it immediately. I'll have to leave it in next time I play through.

I took the transmitter out my first time through the game, but I forgot about it the second time.
Suffice to say, this scene made me crack up when it unexpectedly happened.

I don't even remember removing the transmitter. Probably just got caught up in healing a bunch of other injuries.

I read about the cutscene before I played the game, so I left it in on purpose. Even though I knew it was going to play, I had no idead how funny it really was. Great job on Kojima's part, this scene was hilarious.

I love this series, but seriously...if I have to keep my comments SFW, shouldn't you keep the header SFW? I could understand putting stuff like that up if it's for video games, but I could seriously get fired if my supervisor saw me browsing that. And if I didn't have Destructoid at work...I might kill myself. Can't we put it under the cut or something?

I'd heard of the mystical "waterfall cutscene" and "dream sequence" but had no idea how to get them so I asked my friends (I was still on my first playthrough) and hey!

Seen this before :P But still funny. I found this out the second time I played through the game. I don't get everyone's hate against this game for some reason. It's my favourite in the series.

Seein people who haven't seen this cutscene makes me wonder what else they never did. Like the Like capturing the Box snake near the waterfalls for infinite ammo camo, or getting the foxhound rating at the end.

Bad facepalm at the header image. Good facepalm at the video. Very subtle, Kojima. Very subtle.

I love that scene. It's so funny because it shifts between the shadows that make it look like Eva is beating the crap outta Snake wrestling style, and the up close face shots which make it look like the sexy is going on.

The "can I take off my pants" and "I'm in a box" conversations really top this scene in comedic value.

Have I ever worked at a call center? No, because I'm not completely useless to society, and I actually serve a higher purpose in life than listening to people complain all day. So, am I a drone hired to do basically nothing productive to humanity? Nope. Sorry, I guess I just can't relate to you.

Oh yeah, I definitely knew about this. My second time around, I purposely left the transmitter, wondering what would happen. Having a sense for Kojima's style, I had a strong feeling he wouldn't let a detail like that go untouched. But after watching that, it took me by surprise. It's one of the funniest moments of that game. Makes the over-all experience even better too.

I think they had this in the extra scene section on the Subsistence disc. Still, now I want to play through just to NOT take the transmitter out this time.
