[Sexy Time! is a new regular series on Destructoid where we take a look at some of the more, shall we say, erotic aspects of video games. It also gives us a reason to post images such as the above. You're welcome.]

The Fear Effect series of survival horror games were creepy as hell. They were also sexy as hell, with main character Hana rocking curves that the PlayStation was incapable of really producing graphically. At the time of its release, Kronos Digital also attempted to entice audiences to Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix with a little girl-on-girl action.

Think of it like Ellen Degeneris' character coming out on that sitcom she had. Except, you know, it's really hot and doesn't involve Ellen Degeneris. Or it could be that because it did not involve Ellen that it's sexy. I'm having a hard time imagining her in any sort of sexual conduct, now that I think about it.

Anyway, hit the jump and we'll look at something titillating.

Needing to create a distraction while they retreive a necessary item hidden above an elevator, Hana and Rain put on a little show for security officers watching on a surveillance camera. Using her feminine wiles and the only garment she seems to be wearing, Hana covers up their viewpoint. Loathe to interrupt the pair lest the dress fall from the camera during their passionate lovemaking, the security guards opt to spend their time panting at a black screen while Hana and Rain make off with the goods.

What's so hot about this scene is the utter disregard for the mission that Hana displays, suggesting that the plan was just as much an opportunity to get up -- throught the elevator's escape hatch, that is -- as it was to get down. The deadpan delivery and quizzical expression from Hana serves to heighten the anticipation right up until the very point at which we see her emerge through the hatch.

Hana's homosexual attitudes in Fear Effect 2 raised a fair bit of controversy at the time, with some groups shocked at the flagrant sexuality on display while others simply hoped they'd get a little more action out of Hana. Sadly, the latter would wind up the more disappointed. A third game in the series, Fear Effect Inferno, was planned for a 2003 release on the PlayStation 2 but shelved due to increasing financial concerns at Eidos.

All I have to say is that the time may be ripe for Eidos to revive the franchise. With the way the survival horror genre has changed over the last few years, it would be interesting to see a game like Fear Effect with its more traditional gameplay elements and creative ideas come back into gaming. Besides, horror and sex go hand in hand and it only makes sense that this be reflected more in our games.
