I definitely used to think like this, but it's pretty self-centered to do so, not to mention, it's just a self-granted license to be a douchebag. I mean, I could tell a recently bereaved person that I think it's hilarious that their family member died, but saying, "It's only a joke, they chose to be offended" doesn't excuse me from being a world class dick.
I agree with you Jim, unless you know 100% that the person you are "joking" knows and thinks it is a joke you just don't say certain things...male or female.
@tristy
One of the many reasons I'm glad you're posting around here again.
Sexual harassment is never okay though, just like racism or any other kind of bigotry it should not be allowed or shrugged off. Especially because constantly people in the fgc are always wondering why there are so few female players, when shit like this goes down it makes the community as a whole look less appealing.
Stay free FGC.
It's really not that hard to not offend other people.
And offending people is gonna happen, but how can you not tell when the joke is no longer a joke? Get a fucking clue.
Put people in a position where classlessness is deemed acceptable, and some people are just gonna act classless as fuck.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a few grown ass women to punch in the arm and call doo doo face. I wish I knew how to express my feelings.
Dickwolves.
That whole pile of bullshit completely exemplifies everything that's wrong with the offended mindset, and everything that could potentially be wrong with self-censorship.
There ARE circumstances where a little tact is in order, but to just make the blanket statement that we should self-censor the moment someone supposedly takes offense... nah. Can't follow you there. Dickwolves.
I've looked at some parts of the community and they have said "well what did she expect?" because she was in a male majority community and I don't see it that way. I look at the Dtoid livestream community Carnage and Pico built and there is no issue of race, sex or religion and everyone is accepted into the group as an equal and that is what I call a community.
Capcom and the Street Fighter players need to do something about this issue because it means you don't have a solid community, they need to get their house in order.
Well that's the thing, isn't it? I am on PA's side with dickwolves because it did not include the personal element. It was a widely broadcast joke, that wasn't even about rape, in a site that had courted offense many times before. When you hit a broad stroke, you're bound to offend *someone* and it's up to both sides to acknowledge that and be rational about it.
When you deal with this though, it was against one person on an individual basis. When it's laser-targeted like that, it's a different situation. I believe the difference between a personal and an impersonal joke is pretty much a chasm.
This morning on teamsp00ky stream, Sp00ky said that action was taken on day 2 of the competition and Aris was told to turn it down. However, there's plenty of video after day 2 of Aris continuing harassment and being a general creep, on Day 5 he said "sexual harassment is part of the fighting game community" and that quote is verbatim.
It makes me sick to see that a lot of the Fighting Game community is actually backing Aris over Super Yan. There is a line. When the person you're "joking" with isn't laughing, you've crossed it and should stop. Doesn't matter if either party is a man, woman, black, white, gay, straight, or anything in between.
I see. I misunderstood you then. I took you to mean that any joke that someone could be offended by should be avoided, which btw, seemed odd after the Gay Erotic Gay Love Story thing but I wasn't gonna call you on it.
My mistake. We agree on this. Lets hug.
I created an account here just to say I've been in the FGC for a long time and I really doubt anyone said that.
Sorry about that you bear headed fuck, I rarely get on the thing so maybe it just auto declined you.
Or you had some creepy name at the time like "urethra knife"(?) and I just shook my head, declined and turned off my ps3. Try it again!
Wow... seriously? Seriously? SERIOUSLY?! Dude, there is not A SINGLE FUCKING JOKE where EVERYONE will be laughing and that absolutely no one is victimized by. That's just the fucking nature of how jokes work. Geez, no one why the shit you say hasn't been funny in a long long time. You have a complete misunderstanding for comedy 101.
She felt she was contractually obligated to stay and that legal action could possibly be taken against her if she left the show prematurely. Yes, you can argue that the shit she had to put up with would have put her well in the clear, but she more than likely did not think of that at the time under such duress.
What about something like a Ricky Gervais Golden Globes monologue? Would you apply this line of thinking differently to public figures, like celebrities?
Indeed, and I was speaking in a more broad, general sense. Thus the misunderstanding.
1. You're a douchebag.
2. You gave MW3 a 9.5, any of your opinions are invalid.
3. This article was clearly written out of a huge amount of bias and hate towards this Capcom event. GTFO with your trash opinions and misinformed and out of context info.
4. You're a douchebag.
Stay classy, Jim.
It doesn't matter how good you are if you're remembered as an asshole.
In a room, with a single person, relentlessly "joking" at someone when that person has said stop is not cool.
I am not saying offensive humor shouldn't be allowed. I am saying it shouldn't be targeted at somebody there, with you, asking you to stop it.
I don't think you should use that argument to arrive at your conclusion. Dickwolves was an issue to do with rape, and that really changes the game entirely. The psychological "triggers" that are associated with something like joking about rape are a different thing to "taking offence" entirely.
Not even, dude. There's any number of supposed "game changers" that are the exception to the rule. You start crossing things off the list because someone thinks they should be taboo and pretty soon, we're firmly in the realm of self-censorship.
No thanks. Rape is hilarious. Ask George Carlin, he knew it three decades ago.

She did what she felt was right in the situation, thats her choice people will probably view her as wussing out. The dude decided to just shrug it all off... well thats his choice too and people will probably view him as an asshole.
I have an issue with this sort of thing kinda blowing up as some big discussion among people about harassment on a larger scale. These sorts of things are most certainly individual cases and can't really be used well to champion either side of the "argument". It just gets even worse when we get people making absolutist arguments about it from either side. Shit isn't that simple, we don't know all the circumstances involved, we don't know how much of it was intended to harm or not (even with his later statements, that could just be deflection... he might have not meant to make her angry).
So my point is. Meh.
For sure! But I'll go and watch George Carlin knowing what I'm about to be laughing at/about. Though I guess you could say the same for PA. Just that the way that whole issue blew out of proportion was because of that one particular subject. Personally, I liked the comic.
Also, gay erotica.
Also, also, Carlin was a classic case of being way too ahead of his time.
