I definitely used to think like this, but it's pretty self-centered to do so, not to mention, it's just a self-granted license to be a douchebag. I mean, I could tell a recently bereaved person that I think it's hilarious that their family member died, but saying, "It's only a joke, they chose to be offended" doesn't excuse me from being a world class dick.

Yeah the fgc, which I normally am a proud member of, can be a little too crass sometimes.
Sexual harassment is never okay though, just like racism or any other kind of bigotry it should not be allowed or shrugged off. Especially because constantly people in the fgc are always wondering why there are so few female players, when shit like this goes down it makes the community as a whole look less appealing.

Capcom should have took Aris aside and told him to stop and then there wouldn't be an issue. I also think Super Yan should either have pushed the issue to Capcom till they did something or left to show her disapproval and given her story to all the gaming sites and publications, essentially she did nothing and now there will be no change to Capcom or the community so in the end other gamers will experience the same thing.
I've looked at some parts of the community and they have said "well what did she expect?" because she was in a male majority community and I don't see it that way. I look at the Dtoid livestream community Carnage and Pico built and there is no issue of race, sex or religion and everyone is accepted into the group as an equal and that is what I call a community.

It makes me sick to see that a lot of the Fighting Game community is actually backing Aris over Super Yan. There is a line. She felt she was contractually obligated to stay and that legal action could possibly be taken against her if she left the show prematurely. Yes, you can argue that the shit she had to put up with would have put her well in the clear, but she more than likely did not think of that at the time under such duress.

Trash talking is part of the game, whether it's sports or esports, but there are still lines that shouldn't be crossed. There are standards in sports and it could be suspension-worthy. Or at the very least, go all pond-hockey on him and have a teammate do a bit of "self-policing".
I have to say that people who know Aris know of his rude comments and the like and if a person was to ask him to sop he would stop. This article is missing another crucial element as to why Super-Yan quit, the stress. Interviews on FGC streams like LI Joe's shows how stressful this event is. All players involved did not expect Cross Assault to be so physically and mentally draining as it is. Super-Yan did write on her Twitter feed that she did not believe she was the one to go to Final Round, and she didn't want to. I doubt that Aris's comments were the sole reason for her leaving.
There's a very fine line between joking and having fun and being a dick. Knowing that line, or when to back off is key. Chalk it up to immaturity or ignorance but some people just don't know how to do that. And if you do offend someone, then apologize. Show you can learn and grow. Don't just act like its no big deal. All that shows is that you refuse to understand someone's perspective and that's insular and a great way to stop growing.

I don't think you should use that argument to arrive at your conclusion. Dickwolves was an issue to do with rape, and that really changes the game entirely. The psychological "triggers" that are associated with something like joking about rape are a different thing to "taking offence" entirely.
