I still believe the SNES is the greatest console of all time, with the PS2 behind it.
I had one as a kid, but my fondest memory of the SNES was the summer between freshman and sophomore year of high school (2001). I stayed up until 6 or 7 in the morning almost every day playing all the greats I didn't have the chance to beat when I was a kid, and some I did. All the greatest SNES games, DKC 1-3, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Kirby's All Stars, all 3 Star Wars games, Star Fox, Zelda, I mean the list goes on. Beat them all, and did it with the radio on in my attic room. Man I miss those days.

One of my first experiences with the console was Chrono Trigger. Therefore Snes is best. I need to pick one up again.
Amazing tribute. I will love for all eternity however reminded Demon's Crest and included it on that picture.

One thing that I've noticed about Super Nintendos over the years is that they are INDESTRUCTIBLE. Mine has survived years of childhood tantrums and still works like a charm, and the people I know who still have theirs can plug it in and play just fine.
Console makers can take a cue from this durable beasts and start making systems that last more than 5 years.

Getting the SNES was one of the most vivid memories of childhood I have. I remember my parents getting one for my brother and me. It was Christmas Eve, and we would always go to the 11:00 PM service at our church. When we got home, my brother and I went downstairs and found an absolutely huge box embraced with wrapping paper. I didn't know it at the time, but I think it was a treadmill box. They got us the system, Super Mario World (which came with the system), Mario All-Stars, Star Fox, and maybe one or two other games. Good times, good times.
Mine broke a few weeks ago. It no longer shows the graphics layer that the sprites are on so stuff is invisible and unplayable. :(
It was my first console and while I didn't have it for very long, it was a great console that had so many amazing games. Granted, I played most of those games for the first time in high school, but that just shows how awesome they really are.
Weird, what a coincidence. I had been rummaging through my attic for some stuff this week and I found my SNES and dragged it out. Played some Starfox and ALTTP. I didn't even know this week was the anniversary! Good timing, I guess!

I was born in 1995, and, as far as I can tell with my mates at school, I'm the only one who grew up on the SNES. In fact, Mario All Stars was one of the first games I remember playing, and I played the hell out of that game. I grew up on games like Mortal Kombat, A Link to the Past, Mario, and Primal Rage.
The SNES is my favourite console of all time, not only because it has one of the best game libraries ever, but it's the reason I'm a gamer. I still play Sunset Riders and Final Fantasy V regularly.
It's the reason I stepped into the Mushroom Kingdom for the first time, and for that, I think it is the finest example of a console. It brought me into gaming, and I don't think I'll stop playing any time soon.

I love my SNES. My dad got it for my Birthday with TMNT 4: turtles in time. My buddy and I would spend hours playing that game co-op. I eventually got Super Mario World; it took us forever to finish that one. And then Chrono Trigger came along. It was the first RPG I had ever played and it literally blew my mind.

Good ol' days of obsessive video game renting at the local video club. I was playing everything : fishing games, Where's Waldo games, Cheetos games, Cool Spot, The Tick, Captain Novolin... That's how I got to know about obscure favorites (The Ignition Factor, Uniracers, Vic Tokai's S.O.S., Sparkster...) and the masterpiece of 16-bit gaming : EarthBound.
These days I'd never bother with a Cheetos themed video game. Eh.

The SNES managed to wrangle with your emotions before polygons existed. Locke expressed more character over 30 hours than Lightning did with 55 of my precious time, and that's a man who probably wouldn't have too much trouble fitting a billion times over into one of her cheekbones.

I haven't seen such an evocative sprite based game since Mother 3, but there's no console on the market that has to support that kind of style anymore, now that even handhelds rival home consoles in terms of power.
Still, I'm glad I haven't played all the good 32 bit games yet. Secret of Mana is yet to be enjoyed by myself, so there's life in the old era yet!

Yes! The SNES is possibly my favorite console! It's in a fight with the PS2, I can't decide which one I like more. But the SNES has four of my very favorite RPGs: EarthBound, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger. I don't know where I would be without those games.

Final Fantasy VI got me hooked on JRPGs. Earthbound was a fucking revelation. The Donkey Kong Country games remain some of the best platformers of all time. I'll never forget striking out fools in Ken Griffey Junior Baseball, and them cracking the bat over their knee. And even though the game didn't have the MLBPA licence (no real player names), they included the ability to change players' names, so you could just rename your favourite team to the right names.

Hmm... I wonder if the kids of today will look at the Xbox 360 and PS3 as fondly in 20 years. I'm willing to bet they will.
I'm just gonna mention that the Super Nintendo was released in America a couple months after I was born... just to make y'all feel old.
My family had just moved from California to Ohio in August of 1991 and I had to buy my SNES with my own money. It took my 10-year old ass until October until I could afford it (that's with birthday money saved from August), and I still remember going to Toys R' Us and buying it with my mom (Hi Mom!).

Homebrewed my wii and have been playing snes games for the last month. I miss platforemers so much, and also I miss the days before consoles were hooked up to the Internet.
I remember this system as it was my very first system. I would play it every day. Super Mario World, X-Men, Mega Man X, and it just goes on and on. This is by far my favorite system. Now I just need to finally find and play Super Mario RPG. I love the SNES <3

Is it really that old? I swear i was 5 or 6 before i got mine and i'm 22 now.... FUUU mum u said it was new!
I remember being around 12 at the time, my folks went to the horse track to bet the ponies, they hit it big, like $800, and they brought me a present home. I got me a brand spanking new super nintendo. I really miss the games of the super nintendo generation, they were the best. I want my high def, 2d lufia remakes or new games already.... I remember my folks giving me and my brother 50 bucks each when they got their taxes back, and I was wanting a copy of Street Fighter 2. I didn't have enough cash because for some odd reason, I remember the game being $75, so my brother gave me half his money to get the game, and used the other half to take his girlfriend out.
I am part of the Final Fantasy 6 band wagon. I can never forget those scenes that outdo 99 percent of modern game scenes, such as the opera scene in FF 3/6, and Cyan's dark castle scene. The super nintendo days were the days of gameplay over graphics. Sure you had mode 7 and what not upgrade to graphics, but not all games used it, and it wasn't a supposedly game breaking deal to use normal graphics.
So yes, the super nintendo is my favorite system. If only most of the games I own for it still didn't look so bad on my tv, I would still play them religiously. Maybe someday somebody will refine the technology to turn sprites into hd graphics with minimal effort.

I never had a SNES. My brother and I got an NES two years before the SNES came out and my parents refused to get us one.

Out of all the consoles, I still know a lot of friends that still have the Super Nintendo connected to their TV and nothing else. The SNES is a perfect example when both the console manufacturer and content creators came together and knocked it out of the park.
