Board games nerds, lend me your ears! Whether you already played the German board game Settlers of Catan in its original board game form or you discovered it through the Xbox Live Arcade version, you know it can be very addictive if you're a fan of such noble pastimes as sheep trading. You'll be happy to hear that a DS version of the game has been announced, which will likely be a lot wasier to tote around than the travel version of the board game.

The game is actually a port of Catan: The First Island, which was originally released on mobile phones, so it will be different from the version you may be used to from Xbox Live Arcade. The original does contain multiplayer, so we can likely expect the same from the DS incarnation.

No details on a release date have been specified, but we'll keep you updated. Catan is one of my favorite multiplayer games, so I'm looking forward to being able to steal resources from my friends on the go as soon as possible!

I am in full agreement with Scientist tz - where are those expansions?

This is really awesome though.

I third the request for the XBLA expansions... and speaking of which, anyone on my friends list who still plays Catan, shoot me an invite some time. I'd love to play multiplayer with some Dtoiders.

Another vote for XBLA expansions. Cities and Knights would be soooo good.

Can I fourth or fifth or whatever that request? Cities and Knights is incredible, and once you play it, it's hard to go back to regular Settlers.

I am so excited about the Settlers of Catan on DS. I am wondering is it released yet? Because i saw a post on some other blogs that this guy has it on his DS. Can somebody please tell me if it's out yet?

Thanks!
