Seriously: Convert change to Facebook Credits at Coinstar photo

You know those Coinstar machines that let you dump change into them for paper cash/gift cards/etc? Now you can dump your change...in the trash! Or, get Facebook credits.

A partnership with online payment service Rixty will let you turn your change-heavy pockets into Facebook Credits so you can buy stupid straw hats for your farmers. There's even bonus Credits for dumping larger amounts of change. Real Life is turning into a game! I'm in despair!

They're hoping to kick things off by offering 10 free FB Crecits to any coinstar users who choose cash instead, says Gamepro. This promotion runs from August 9th through September 7th. Right now there's no end date to dump your change for Credits.

Naaaaahhhh.

I always roll it myself and take it to the bank. The 8% those coin machines take is a complete ripoff. It's not even like it takes that much effort, if you watch TV then you have time to roll your coins.

I had $198.xx in JUST pennies (saved em for 4 years) and my mom took them to the credit union in her town for me as they have a coin counter. It took her over an hour for the machine to count them all I highly doubt that I would have rolled 396 rolls of pennies.

On a side note, this idea is a weak one but if people use it....

Yay, more money for in game purchases, until zynga decides to take the game down without any explanation, thereby throwing all of your in game purchases in the trash.

Coinstar? More like Ripoffstar. I'd rather just roll my pennies up. I used to do it all the time when I sold snacks out of my bookbag at school. On a different note, I'd rather see Coinstar team up with Microsoft so you could convert change to Microsoft Points to you know, play real games. Ok I'm done. I'm going to fix myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich now.

This is just another one of those things that happens because the world is full of people. One day everything will be aligned.

@Joel: I like PalidOne's suggestion of purchasing Microsoft points with your change. See what you can do about that.

I just go with the Amazon gift card myself. Doesn't take a cut of anything and I do all of my preordering there anyway.

I just take my extra change to the bank and have them sort it. They don't charge me a fee and I can put it directly into my savings or checking. I seriously hope people aren't turning real money into Facebucks or whatever they're called.

To everyone spouting all this Jibba Jabba about changing real money for fake money, what do you think MS points, Nintendo Points and your PSN wallet are full of? Can you get that money back from MS/Nintendo/Sony? No.
Same thing, different name.

I'm not entirely sure the local bank has a sorter. I just roll it all naturally as I get it. I even have one of those little plastic sorter things that doesn't exactly work well (hates quarters), so I just dump whatever into the proper slot as I get it. I don't understand how Coinstar even makes its business. Do people not realize the bank does this for free? D: Well, that's a pretty silly question, I realize. =P
