I doubt our Double Whopper culture has room for this sort of title, but it's just another shining example of how incredibly vast the DS library is in Japan ... and further reinforces the fact we've officially run out of video game ideas. The press release and game details follow:

In 1689, poet Basho Matsuo embarked on a 150-day walking journey from what is now Tokyo through the northern Tohoku and Hokuriku regions, composing haiku as he visited locales that poets of the past had written about. His record of the experience, "Oku no Hosomichi" (The Narrow Road to the Deep North), is a classic of Japanese literature and required reading in school. While probably everyone in Japan knows the title and has checked it out to some extent, it’s not the kind of spellbinding read that keeps books on the bestseller list, especially after 300 years.

But earlier this year, Poplar Publishing came out with a new edition that has been a huge hit in bookstores. The secret to its popularity? It’s a traceable version in which readers follow Matsuo’s journey step by step, character by character. Called "Enpitsu de Oku no Hosomichi" (The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Pencil), each page is printed in a light font that makes it easy to write over the text with a pencil. In this age of computers it’s a chance to practice actually writing something, and fans like the deliberate pace required to work through the text —just as Matsuo must have concentrated on each step of his journey. And in the end, you’ve got an attractively bound, handwritten copy of this enduring work to add to your library.
