i mean, hes the only one ive used so far, but that doesnt discredit me or anything.
A lot of people tend to forget that games can be fun and entertaining, not every game has to be SRS BSNS all the time.
However though seeing as Kirby drops today and Tuesday Vanquish along with New Vegas come to my life....
This one wont be in my pool.
Uh... yeah... It's literally supposed to be BETTER than Dynasty Warriors. Like what would happen if Dynasty Warriors actually had decent gameplay.
I don't care for these types of games, but even I know that the gameplay of SB is worlds ahead of DW.
This is $40. Ken's Rage is $60...and I'm on a bit of a budget.
this is why no one should base their purchase on a reviewer's opinion...
Oh lordy, that's going in the "Best Jim Sterling quotes" category.
Well it'll be in my (dusty, forgotten) backlog I suppose. Might pick it up next year when the price is down and I want a Wii game to play.
I also enjoy the boss fights in the game. The boss fights actually feel like boss fights from other action games where the character pulls off moves as insane as yours.
I'm a huge fan of the Sengoku Basara series and while this isn't quite as great as SB2 (Where the hell is the Coliseum? And half the character roster?), it's a damn lot of fun.
I can't say I'm surprised that so many reviews for the game are extremely bad: It's a very niche appeal game. However, if you're in the niche, it's perfect. It won't win any awards, but neither did Rocky Horror Picture Show when it first came out.
As for this one I liked it better than SW3 personally. While simpler, something about it just made me want to keep playing more and more. I just hope it sells well enough so Capcom will localize the next in the series.
This game is different. It's so bombastically over the top and insane that I simply must buy it as soon as I see it. It's one of those few games I'd expect to be released only on HD consoles that happens to be on the Wii, and after seeing the first insane trailer for this insane game, I simply must have it.
Also, I'm kinda jealous Sonic 4 couldn't have been nearly as good or as inventive a game as Epic Yarn, and Sonic Colors will probably suffer from the Sonic curse of mediocrity and lack of awesome, so yeah. It's only a minor buffer until I finish up college.
In Sengoku Basara you eventually have a similar number of total special attacks (after leveling up as in both games), but you can mix and do the specials whenever you want, you don't have to first do a simple attack 8 hit combo to then do a special, you just do them whenever with Street Fighter-esque (but very simple) button combinations. That makes it feel less repetitive (or at least leaves the repetition up to you, if you wanna mash the same special over and over that's your choice, but mixing it up is both needed to perform the 2k-10k hit combos, and more fun) than Samurai Warriors 3.
Also, many of the characters have way different styles, and many of them still vary their moves depending on how you perform a combo as in SW3. Ieyasu can either do fast normal attacks or choose to charge each and every attack in a combo, and do certain multi hit specials even in mid air, Magoichi can do normal attacks with either a pistol, shotgun, or machinegun, since each of her special attacks switches to and uses one of those weapons, which remain in use until another special switches to another, Masamune can activate all 6 of his swords like a samurai Wolverine for increased attack range at the expense of missing block functions, and while they all use the same button combinations the gameplay feel is varied... All the characters are more agile than Samurai Warriors 3 with easier more immediate blocking and evasion maneuvers, as well as the ability to dash at will by double tapping forward. And that doesn't mean it's not challenging as hard mode will still kick your ass depending on the level at hand.
As for the visuals, even the Wii version looks far superior to Samurai Warriors 3 with much sharper textures and more detailed characters, although of course it's the main characters and bosses who look best still. Speaking of bosses SB mixes up the normal human generals with some fun creative bosses that SW3 lacks (outside the final boss of Murasame Castle at least) as it only has generals which can get boring since they also don't have as varied specials as in SB3. The PS3 version has a little less pop-in and much higher res textures as well as high quality shadows, and looks pretty good. And not really behind some of Koei's HD-exclusive Warriors games either (although some upcoming ones look great) so after rating Koei's efforts well I don't understand the complaints for this game.
It seems to me that you just didn't play this enough, perhaps you were burnt out after SW3 or expected this to work like SW3 in some ways that it's a different game so didn't quite get what it offers.
Oh and the localisation and voice overs are superb and in character most of the time, fun and cheesy in a GOOD way, not in a "so bad it's almost good" way like say, early Resident Evil titles.
