Sega to appeal Aliens vs. Predator ban in Australia photo

Thanks to Australia's evil Attorney General Michael Atkinson, Aliens Vs. Predator is currently banned in the country that gave us Prisoner: Cell Block H. Publisher Sega has chosen a potentially foolhardy route, as it plans to appeal the OFLC's rating refusal in an attempt to get galactic genocide into the hands of Aussie gamers.

The review board will convene on December 18 to discuss the matter, and it will "only consider submissions about the computer game Aliens vs Predator itself and not any other matters relating to computer games policy or issues generally." So, if you were hoping the review board would also talk about obscure PSOne shooter sequel Re-Loaded, you're fresh out of luck.

With Atkinson facing corruption charges and public opinion apparently swaying in favor of an 18+ age rating, it would appear that Australia's days of backward entertainment policies are almost at an end. Can't wait until the country's stupid rating system is finally reformed.

Prisoner: Cell Block H - haven't seen it. But have seen 'Romper Stomper' which was about Australia's NeoNazi gang wars problems. Has a street fight in it that is realistic enough to curdle Nun milk. Just sayin.

Well, we definitely wouldn't want anyone to miss out on a game that looks this awesome. Here's hoping that Sega pulls out its ninja lawyers on this one.

Isn't funny how Australia gets all butthurt over videogames but has no problem with soundtracks for movies like Romper Stomper that have white power songs like Fuhrer Fuhrer and shit like that that. I think the basis of their argument is that is an accurate portrayal of the current situation or whatever, sounds like bullshit to me.

Personally I think the issue is as simple as all right wing claims of being able to provide safety and security by loss of democratic decision making.

I have a feeling adult entertainment games will suffer like porn did in the US, until Australia's economy figures out how to make money off of them.

The answer is cearly just adjust the game the aussie rating system:

Replace blood with that milky suff that andriods bleed.
Replace genades with a refreshing can of Fosters™.
Replace the aliens and facehuggers with kangaroos and stingrays.
Replace The predators with Mick "Crocodile" Dundee as played by Paul Hogan (Hulk Hogan in the US release).

DONE! and just in time for realease too! G'day y'all!

For all those still wondering why we have R rated movies and yet games like L4D2 get banned. The max rating for video games is MA15+, the only person standing in the way of that is Attorney General Michael Atkinson, with all the other Attorney Generals being to gutless and lazy to challenge Atkinsons' refusal of an R18+ rating. Impotence. I'm still surprised Dead Space and Gears of War got through the ratings with a 15+ restriction, what did PEGI and the ESRB rate those games 18+/17+?

if i were Sega instead of wasting time and energy in appealing tha game again, i suggest they just kidnap Attorney General Michael Atkinson and maybe let him watch brutal, gory and bad videogames like Assassins Creed 1 (i hate you AC1!!!!)..and dont release Atkinson until the ban has been lifted off..thats my two cents

Fingers crossed Jim, the more press this issue gets the more chance we have of finally turning this backwards ass system around.

Yeah, just two things. First, he isn't Australia's Attorney General. He is AG of a single state. Yeah, our constitution says all AGs have to agree to change the censorship/classification laws. But he's not the fault of all of us. Just the twits in South Australia.
Second, this is NOT Australia getting butthurt. We WANT our R rating. It is in all seriousness one single guy cockblocking us. Once he or his state government is voted out, see how fast it takes for the R rating to come.

I doubt they'll give this one a 15+ rating what with the first person human killing parts in it.
You play as an alien or a predator and can do some pretty nasty stuff to the marines.

But eh Fear 2 basically went through the same process and we got that game in under the 15+ label eventually so who knows.

Here's an Idea, every company should boycott Australia and let the gamers over throw the government and the rest of us can have a laugh.
