Sega's World Destruction DS RPG reunites Xenogears creators

Sega's World Destruction DS RPG reunites Xenogears creators photo

If you played RPGs during the Playstation's heyday, you likely remember Xenogears, a superlative action RPG from Square. I waited with baited breath for Xenosaga, hoping it would compare to that other game's quality, but it didn't quite live up to what I hoped for, only enhancing that golden glow around Xenogears in my memory.

While Sega's upcoming fantasy RPG World Destruction isn't the new Xenogears, it may be as close as fans of the original game will ever get: Writer Masato Kato, character designer Kunihiko Tanaka, and composer Yasunori Mitsuda are all on board, which certainly points in a positive direction. The title is being developed by Image Epoch, who also did the Luminous Arc series.

You can see lots of screens over at Famitsu, who also report that the game's release will be accompanied by an anime series as well. The story revolves around two main characters named Kyrie and Morute who become a part of an organization called "Destruction of the World." Sega, if you do not make sure this game comes to America, I will come over to Japan and hunt your children. Don't fail me.

Hope we get to take on would-be heroes who foolishly try to stop our plan of world destruction.

Hrmm...I want to have high hopes for this game. Unfortunately, a lot of what has been released recently has failed to meet expectations for me. Whether I have too high of hopes for games, or the overall quality of games has diminished, I'll still be looking forward to more info on this one.

Let's hope they are given enough time to finish it, I'd hate to end up with a game with one good half and one terrible one.

it just bothered me that you called Luminous Arc a series...as far as i know, it's just the one game.

sorry if i'm wrong, though =]

@ braulio:

Luminous Arc has two games, actually. ^_^

That said, can't WAIT for this to come out. I will hunt someone down if it isn't licensed for the states.

Xenogears was made and published by completely different people than Xenosaga. The only similarity between the two are the names.

When I first heard about this game a week ago, I got really excited. Supposedly it has the old Xenogears combat system (or a retooling of). Even though I never played Xenogears, any good epic RPG for DS is great.

Now let's just hope Masato Kato doesn't ruin it with superfluous plot twists that do nothing but destroy the game.
