Sega's Daytona USA being revived with a new name? photo

Get out your robotic vibrato singing voice, as classic Sega racing game Daytona USA could be making a comeback in some form.

Some recently uncovered artwork for an arcade game called Sega Racing Classic came out of Sega Europe. While it doesn't actually say Daytona USA anywhere on the art, the Sega AM2 logo is there, as is the flashy cars and blue, blue skies we remember.

So where's the Daytona name? Kombo reports that EA may have the lock on the license. This name may be the workaround for Sega.

Also of note is the Ringwide logo. Ringwide is Sega's newest arcade tech, with power comparable to the Xbox 360 or PS3. I'm already thinking console port, though this game has not even been confirmed yet.

This is exciting news. It also reminded me I need to pick up Sega Rally Revo, the demo for that was awesome.

One of the few racing games I really got into back in the day. I was so happy to get this for my Saturn.

Oh my god, someone call the doctor! Sega have finally come out of their coma.

Sarcasm aside, this is great news. I'd still love for Sega to dump the original Daytona onto Live, but a nice new game would be sweeter.

Just make sure you bring that cheesy japlish soundtrack too, Sega. Please don't mess this up, as Sega Rally Revo wasn't the greatest game.

I bought a Saturn on the weekend, mainly to play this game. Needless to say, I'm happy.

Already got USA on my Dreamcast & CCE on my Saturn anyway... This needs a PSN & XBL release.

I'd prefer the original SEGA Rally, to the quality of the Saturn version (but in HD) which was better than the arcade in some ways!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!

Prepare to have you asses kicked, Destructoid community. Daytona USA is one of my favorite Sega/arcade/racing games of all time, and not even Vexed Alex can beat me at this game without cheating.

And by cheating, I mean slamming me into the wall repeatedly.

Seriously, don't do that when you play Daytona USA. It's weak.

Also, Dale: I believe EA does not have a lock on the Daytona license. They lose the license in 2010 and from all accounts I have read are no longer going to be producing any NASCAR games, given that NASCAR 10 has not been announced and Gran Turismo 5 has it instead.

@kevinski: Already have a DC :D I heard the controls weren't to great for the DC version of Daytona, though. The Saturn controls are perfect!

@Crabman - They take some getting used to, but they're still very solid once you adjust to them. They're very responsive and predictable, and that's what counts. I could just never tolerate the horrible draw distances on Saturn's version of Daytona.
