A mass wave of bannings before the wipe would have been better. MS needs to be able to remove individual scores, too. Not just with Sonic, but all games in general.

I honestly don't get these obvious cheaters. You get to the top of these leader boards with these scores and everyone can clearly see you're a cheater... what's the point? I mean if that really strokes someones ego.. there are no words.

I've seen this kind of thing before. Some tool glitches a game for a max score and then has something like this written in their profile.....

@Sanious I agree... you aren't achieving anything for being there. Why do it? To prove that you can? To "get back" at Sega for making Sonic 4? Gamers are such a frustrating bunch sometimes...
Of course Sonic deserves leaderboards. Figuring out ways to get through levels the fastest is really fun.
The devs should simply do what the Warhawk devs did... they actually looked at a bunch of the top scores and removed the scores for the cheaters only (allowing legitimate gamers to move up the leaderboards). There was the old tossing the flag glitch before they got rid of it and it was easy to find these glitchers due to inordinately high scores in CTF games.
It seems that the glitchers were easy to spot with this game too, and while it may have been more work, it wouldn't have penalized those that didn't cheat.

Chances are that these cheaters are underachievers in life and can only find peace with themselves at proclaiming to be the best on a video game leaderboard. And of course they don't actually have the skill to do it legitimately.
Is it only the 360 Boards getting reset? I know for sure there are cheaters on the Wii version, and I'm willing to bet the PS3 and Iphone versions have this as well.

Its that whole "white hat" hacking thing. They do it because they can. Only problem is instead of hacking it and going to the developer and saying "hey I can hack your game". They send it out to everyone and ruin the gamer scores of everyone.

@ Silve - anyone working hard for weeks to get the best time on a video game leader board has much bigger issues than cheaters screwing up their score.
well i guess some ppl cheat to show some sort of hacking ability but when it comes down to it your pathetic. i admit that I hack games but its not for online, its for my own kicks.
People who place in leaderboards in track, swimming, go carts, cars, etc... they all have issues because they don't have anything better to do with their time.
Grow up people, gaming might not be as accepted in the US, but countries like korea revere their game stars the way we revere sports stars. They're both skill sets that the large majority of the population doesn't possess, and it's bull to say that their work is pointless.

It's just like when I forged my grades in school. A++++++++++++++! Years later I wised up, and started just giving myself A+13. I are smart!
Hmm, resetting just enforces the 'win' the hackers think they had in the first place. It'll be a doddle for them to send another hacked hiscore to the leaderboards, while legit players probably now think "I can't be arsed doing that again, especially if it could just get wiped indiscriminately".

Its more to the effect that some retard wants "internet fame" so they hack their way to the top of the leaderboards. Seriously, its nothing to do with skill, they know people will see their scores as bullhit - they just want attention.
And that doesn't even begin to come close to the depravity of people seeking internet fame in MMOs.
