A demo for Sega's upcoming racer, Sega Rally, is now available on Xbox Live. The single-player demo weighs in at about 692 MB, which is five MB heavier than my favorite WWF wrestler of old, Earthquake.
The demo features two tracks, set in the game's Canyon and Tropical environments. The Mitsubishi Evo IX FQ3 and the Subaru Impreza STi Spec C type RA are selectable, but there's no explanation given as to why in the hell we can't just call things "cars" anymore.
PlayStation 3 owners won't get left in this dust on this one -- word is that a Sega Rally demo will be hitting the PlayStation Network soon. Someone go download this sucker and let us know what you think.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
- 30 FPS, maybe due to deformation?
- Track deformation is VERY cool and more obvious than Motorstorm, probably because it's done in actual geometry as opposed to a texture pass. It's also a lot easier to see if you're in bumper-cam mode.
- People report it gets along with the steering wheel.
- Control without the wheel is kinda off. Not like Dirt floaty, but loose.
- Graphics are quite good, but music sucks. Sega is good with music one day and then way off the next.
Fun as hell.
Go next/new gen! It's the future!
Oh snap, this is gonna be good.
I won on both tracks first go. Then I changed cars and still won by a big margin, then I changed to road tires and won by even more (these are both off road tracks) this brings a whole new meaning to "arcade style racing".
Your co-driver calls some turns with a "easy left/right, maybe" - MAYBE! You are fired buddy, why don't you open that door there and duck and roll on this "maybe" turn. That will teach you to take better pace notes on the shakedown.
The track deformation is cool but it only happens on the track, rocks/fences etc. don't take damage just like your car.
I can't believe what a short amount of time it took me to come first. DIRT took me hours to win all three stages, it was a real feeling of accomplishment when i finally did it.
Why is this demo so easy? Why do I get so much traction on dirt with slick tires? Why can't I fire my co-driver? Why doesn't my car take damage? Why doesn't my car roll? Why do I hardly slow down when I hit a rock/fence?
This is meant to be a rally game right?
