While only loosely related to videogames in the vaguest sense, it's too amazing to fully ignore. Sega Toys, a branch of Sega Sammy, is partnering with Neurosky to create thought-controlled toys. Neurosky's technology allows the user's brainwaves to interact with the toys, and Sega wants to help make such a horrifying cyber-nightmare come to life. Neurosky had this to say:
"SEGA TOYS is taking play to the next level, and we at NeuroSky are proud to be a part of this break-through in next generation entertainment. With our ThinkGear™ bio-sensor technology and innovative capacity of SEGA TOYS, our collaboration with SEGA TOYS will empower consumers to intimately interact with or control a toy, using their mind."
Without a trace of sensationalism, I hereby propose that this means the END OF THE WORLD, since an army of thought-controlled immortal plastic supersoldiers will definitely take over Earth as a result of this. At first we shall bow to the whims of a human dictator, but the toys will become self aware, that they might overthrow their fleshy master and the entire world shall be like Toy Story except instead of charming banter between a cowboy and a spaceman, there will just be blood. Lots and lots of blood. And like, some people being sick as well. Blood and sick.
You have been warned.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Because it was lovingly Mad in China!

Also, Dreamcast 2 will have mind-controlled controllers officially one-upping the Nintendo Wii, 10-upping the PStriplez, and 360-upping the... 360... and returning like a phoenix from the ashes to herald the coming of Jesus. And then destroy the world with a bonus downloadable map for Chu Chu Rocket 2.
2.) This is absolutely nothing to worry about as long as the toys are not networked/don't store brain wave patterns. Because:
3.) The technology is non-invasive. It can read, but not write(pretty fucking thankfully). As it stands, it's fairly crude. It works by detecting certain distinct, probably preset, thought patterns(eg. "blue" or "cold"), and as such is little different to just pressing buttons.
4.) I frequently get mysterious calls at work from a person called sam black who works for skynet, but won't tell me what they want.
Hmm....
