SEGA goes down under, sets up shop in Australia photo

G'day, Mate! Pop open a Fosters, throw a couple of shrimp on the barbecue, and smack your kangaroo on the ass, because SEGA has now opened an Australian office.

Sorry, those were terrible stereotypes. Today SEGA opened its doors to the new Sydney, Australia office. The house that Sonic built is trying to build their western market, and while Australians may not be down with the earlier listed stereotypes, they might agree with the statement that Aussies love video games. They're even happy to pay more for their consoles.

The new office will be headed up by the newly appointed Managing Director, Darren Macbeth. He is a 14 year industry vet with prior roles in Electronic Arts and GT Interactive.

“I am very honoured to have been chosen to set up and run the new SEGA Australia and New Zealand team.  I’m also really excited about the people joining the SEGA Australia and New Zealand team as they are high caliber, industry experienced people that will help take SEGA into a top 5 publisher in this market over the next few years”, commented Darren Macbeth, Managing Director of SEGA Australia.

“SEGA is a massive brand and it’s refocus as a publisher of high quality interactive products across all platforms is showing great results.  This Christmas will show the strength of SEGA with big brand properties such as SEGA Rally, Universe at War: Earth Assault, The Golden Compass and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games leading the way”.

Good to hear the VG market expanding in Aus. I worked on an indie game with a few guys from there who were trying to get into the biz and it seemed like slim pickin's.
