Sega announces Sonic and the Black Knight

The Sonic storybook series that began with Sonic and the Secret Rings continues with this latest announcement for Sonic and the Black Knight. This Wii-exclusive title brings  Sonic back to medieval times, giving the hedgehog the chance to become a knight. How Arthurian!

Sonic actually takes up a sword in this new title by Sega Japan's Sonic Team. The Wii Remote and Nunchuck will both be used in some fashion to provide an "interactive experience." What do you want to bet that Sonic will swing his sword with your Wiimote movements?

Wait, spiky hair and a big sword? Sounds like something else I've played before.

"Sonic and the Black Knight is a stunning adventure into an epic land and story that no gamer can resist," said Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "Gamers will experience all the excitement of mastering a sword and true knighthood, as well as the classic, speedy, 2D/3D gaming action that Sonic is famous for."

Sonic and the Black Knight will hit the Wii in Spring of 2009.

I don't know what to think of this yet, and Sega has provided us with nothing in the way of pictures. Will it just be Sonic and his sword? That's silly. How can you run fast with a sword? If he is not running fast, then how is he still Sonic?  Does it even seem right to you that Sonic would wield a sword? Is this a good idea, or are they slowly killing our favorite blue hedgehog?

If the controls are better than seven rings, It might have some promise, but Most likely, it will be Shadow the Hedgehog remade into a Sonic slash em up. But I could be wrong.

I guess we'll have to wait for one of Sega's "Sonic Trailer Bots" to put out an awesome looking trailer of gameplay you could only dream of achieving

Also a Slonic fan here but, I couldnt care less what SEGA Do with the blue blurr these days, to me its what the fans oout there are producing!
Sonic Megamix Sonic 1 Hack? Reinvention? Remasterd? Awesome 16bit gaming.
And the upcoming Fangame Retro Sonic, built in C++ The Demo for that is Awesome, these are the people SEGA Should be employing to make new games.

Sean Ratcliffe can kiss my epic ass, what next Sonic and the big pair of Sharp Scissors. :o

MOTHERFUCKER! Sega, please, please stop.
Not that I'm some fanfic writing lunatic Sonic fan, no, I enjoyed the original games, but just ... it's so sad seeing a (in my eyes) fledgeling studio doing bad games that just go nowhere, while the money would be so much better spent trying to come up with something original. Remember Samba The Amigo? Or Jet Grind Radio? Or Crazy Taxi? Yeah, you had it in you Sega, now please try to find it again.

Sonic Team hasn't even hit us with Sonic Unleashed yet and they're already prepping us for more disappointment, how considerate...

Personnaly, I think this sounds better than Sonic Unleashed. I think they're missing the point with Unleashed, focusing solely on the speed aspect and ignoring one of the most crucial parts of the old Sonic games, the platforming. With this, it sounds like they're going more towards the Sonic Adventure games, which I know it may sound like heresy, but I loved those games.

Oh. For a minute there I thought Sonic was teaming up with Batman.

Any Sonic games that deviates from running fast and collecting rings is pointless. Stop trying to make him a deep character.

*facepalm*

You think Sega would've learned by now. We don't WANT epic storylines or locales in our Sonic games. We just want the addictivly fast platforming that the series used to stand for. I can't believe they haven't figured that out yet. Seriously.

while capcom is currently run by nostalgia driven nerds, sega is being run over by deviantart loonies. hooray for us.

Maybe he'll trip on his sword while he's running...if we're lucky. Just when I thought Sega might have snapped out of it with Sonic Unleashed (mostly anyway because of the apparent slow wolf sections..), they do this. So Shadow with a gun bombed so lets stick Sonic with a sword? Seriously?

If this even SMELLS like Secret Rings, then we should probably burn Sega now.

I'm sorry. That game was just not good.

They're so screwed. If running with scissors is bad, running at mach speed with a sword can't be any better.
