It's not a bad game it's just the level design is a clusterfuck and level design is very important in a Sonic game
Have fun with this stalemate.
I can't wait to see how Sonic 4: Episode II is supposed to follow from Sonic CD. Lulz are guaranteed at this point.
I liked Sonic CD because the level design was fun, zany, immensely dense and not always disposed to keep me speeding 300 mph from left to right and occasionally up. It makes the speedy exceptions of Stardust Speedway that much more enjoyable.
and @GoodlyMike, the music and cartoon at the beginning of the game were kick ass. That is what I remember about the game, because I watched that intro over and over again.
If its $5 I'll probably get it, though I imagine that it won't be upscaled and the picture will look horrendous on an HD tv, so I may just stick to it on the PSP.
Also, I'm not a Sonic fanboy but I still dislike 4. Does that make me wrong?
The main reason Sonic CD is so good is because it gives Sonic's speed context within the narrative. Sonic can use his speed to travel to the past and save the future a la The Flash. Aside from that, the fact that each level has three versions feels like a lavish gesture towards Sonic players, especially in this day and age.
I'm starting to think the fanboys really got to Sega. Maybe they canned Episode 2... and 3... and 4... and fuck knows how many other episodes.
Now there's going to be just two, last I heard from Iizuka.
But then again, XBLA listed Left for Dead as a fighting game, so, yeah.
The overall exploring is optional so you can speed about at whatever pace.
It has that easy to play but fun and challenging to full master quality that never forced the player into doing anything besides play as they like.
So ya, while Sonic 2 was heading down the cool and new route, Sonic CD was focused more on just improving what already worked. Thats why fans like it so much.
Sonic 4 though.... I prefer to act like that never existed....
(yes I've played it... was just a bad dream....)
Yet to have anyone reccomend me the game so works well so far. xD
Also when did Sonic 4 have a proper story? It was jsut a mish mash of random sonic game rip off stages with bad physics and horrible level design picked up from the scraps of Sonic Advance/Rush series that didn't make the cut... and for good reason...
Ok enough of that... just a bad dream.... just a bad dream... its not real...
