This summer, EA is expanding the Need for Speed experience to tens of thousands of players with Need for Speed World, a PC-exclusive, free-to-play, microtransaction-funded MMO. When I saw it at a recent press event in New York City, producer Marc De Vellis hailed its game world as "the biggest Need for Speed arena ever." If that doesn't get you excited, then watch this trailer and see if it piques your interest.

All those dots you see on the map there? Yep, each one is a different player, and they'll all be driving around the game world at once -- when they're not taking part in a race event, that is. For all the details on Need for Speed World, check out my preview, which is going up in four hours. If you're already itching to try out the game, you can sign up for the current closed beta at the game's official Web site.

I wonder how those destructible sections of track will work in an online world?

Also - can you play as the police? That'd sell it to me! A huge online game of Cops & Robbers? YES PLEASE

@Dv8thwonder: Our video player -- like pretty much every other video player out there -- uses Flash, which the iPhone doesn't support. Sorry!

Burnout Paradise was in the same vibe... Open world, seemless Multiplayer... It's a notch above the «seemless» burnout had... Looks like the first MMO to catch my interest.

Why did we never get a Test Drive Unlimited sequel?

I'm pretty excited for this!
However, this looks like the kind of game that would be a haven for griefers.

And that would really ruin the game for me...
Even still, game looks rad. Samit post your preview NOW!!!

I am currently working on a gaming website. I am in need of a web designer and content writers. I will offer paid positions once it becomes profitable, and I will of course give full credit to all contributions. This is the perfect experience for portfolio work, getting to meet people and attending conventions.

Did anyone else notice the special move that the car used at the end? It was like a shockwave burst that sent all the surrounding cars flying. There will be obvious car upgrades with the leveling system, but if they actually introduce a battling system I may just have to give this a whirl.

Being able to drop oil slicks or smoke screens, use shockwaves or shunt, maybe even put spikes on your wheels - now I'm dreaming.

I'll take this and continue hoping that one day somebody remakes Rock'n'Roll Racing :(

Two things in response to a couple of comments above:
- Test Drive Unlimited 2 was announced last month
- Yes there are cops, it works exactly like Most Wanted
