Section 8 pushed back a week [Update] photo

Section 8, Southpeak's sci-fi shooter that is blatantly better than Velvet Assassin, is being pushed back a week. I know you were all looking forward to playing it, as evidenced by the fact that every time I play the demo, nobody else is in the multiplayer, but you're going to have to learn to deal with it. Terrible, I know.

"The game is now being released on September 11, not September 4 due to a small delay in the manufacturing process," explains a rep for the company, fighting back the tears.

There's only one reason I took this, and it's because I believe a conspiracy is at play here. Velvet Assassin's release was pretty much akin to a major terrorist attack on North America. In fact, it was probably the worst atrocity committed in recent memory. Section 8 looks more promising, but it could all be a ruse. The fact that it's releasing on 9/11 now convinces me that a global devastation, far worse than Velvet Assassin, might be in the making.

Yes, Southpeak is Al Qaeda. Times ten.

And they can quote me on that for the back of the game's box.

[Update: This delay is UK only. So, the terrorists are finally closing in on Britain.]

You almost make me want to rent Velvet Assassin just to see how bad it is.

...almost.

A fair few of my Steam friends list are on the Section 8 demo recently, so I don't know if it's just better on PC or something.

Space marines? Multiplayer?

Honestly, this looks groundbreaking.

Jim's blantent bias against the ultimate awesomeness that IS Velvet Assassin makes me think he is secretly obsessed with the game and plays it in the wee hours of the morning huddled in the darkness...then keeps the game case stashed in his pants all day to continually pleasure himself in his twisted sick fith way.

Seeing as my gaming rig is dead I haven't been able to play, but Tom Chick's game diaries on playing it make it sound really intriguing. It could even be a replacement for my beloved Starsiege Tribes.

Couldn't stand to play the demo for more than about five minutes. Really not good.

Apparently it's almost exactly like planetside. I played the demo and it is actually pretty interesting and fun, but I can see it wearing out quite quickly.

I liked the demo. If you actually play for more than 5 minutes you can figure out how things work.

Super sprinting alone is worth the purchase of this game. Add into the fact you can shoulder charge into someone face and kill them using said super sprint you have a winner. Don't know what demo the Xbox has but the beta for PC is damm fun, good mix of tribes and planetside type of combat.

Super sprint needs to be stolen from this game and used again and soon!

Southpeak --- are they the company that made... *sigh* "X-Blades"? Well, then Section 8 the game will as good if not better then, Section 8: housing. Any one in NYC will tell you just how great Section 8 housing is and how fucked your situation has to be to get assigned to it in the first place.

Well, I played the demo on the 360, and I can see it being more fun with a squad of capable players. The super charge is fun to do until you run into an uneven surface (ie, where you have to jump onto a higher surface) - I did that a lot.

But it does have bots, so even people like me can play it competently enough.

But, DURNIT, another delay on another GFWL title. Orignally, this week was supposed to have been the Fallout DLC Disc 2, Red Faction Guerilla, and Section 8. Now, it is just the Fallout DLC Disc. But September looks strong for Games For Windows Live - we get FOUR titles, unless, they delay them all over again.

I'm downloading this now. It looked quite good, but if everyone on the 360 says that this sucks, then I guess I'll just have to find out on my own then. We'll see how it plays then.

Anyway, one week isn't a big deal. At least it's still coming out this year, which is more than I can say for a lot of games.

For a squad-based run and gunner I thought it was pretty okay. Not worth my $60, but could be a multiplayer game to get once the price drops a la Shadowrun. My biggest beef with the game is how clunky and slow your character feels. I get that it's supposed to feel that way since you're in this giant suit of armor, but who wants to play a game like that? People who liked Mechwarrior or something like that maybe?

I thought the demo was actually kind of fun. I thought the "Tribes"/"Planetside" comparison by another poster was pretty accurate, though it bugs me that the suits seem incredibly sluggish when they're not jumping or super sprinting. Also, the graphics don't really seem that great, at least not on the 360 version.

I watched someone play the demo and was unimpressed. There's nothing in the game that will draw players away from the flagship PC/360 FPSes.

Just to straighten things out a bit, Southpeak didn't "make" Section 8, they're publishing it. The developers are Timegate Studios, who are not quite so crap as the rest of Southpeak's affiliates.

The game requires squad tactics and learning customization and tuning of the weapons. So it's pretty much SOL for success on 360. A lot of PC gamers see some interesting things here, though it's a shame they added that silly lock-on mode for console players that will never touch it.
