You may remember the Secret World trailer and concept art we showed you a little over a month ago. An upcoming MMO from Funcom, Secret World is set in modern times and has no classes or levels, instead opting for an entirely skill-based system -- something not seen very often in the MMO world. Each player will belong to one of three 'secret societies', all fighting each other for something called anima.
The apparently relatively old website Dark Days Are Coming is still live but we missed it the first time around, and it's a slow news day, so here we go again! You can enter your name for beta access. After taking a dramatic personality test to determine which 'secret society' you best fit in with, you're asked to enter your name and email. Those who do will get a chance at beta access, along with a newsletter, dev updates, some screenshots and wallpapers, and some in-game items once the game goes live. Apparently I best fit with the 'Dragon' society, which sound like the assholes of the game. Figures.
Anyway, sign up for marketing stuff, and you might get into the beta.

If he's not playing Team Fortress 2 or getting into arguments about why PC gaming is superior, he's either off having a fancy dinner with lots of expensive wine, or sitting on the Destructoid IRC complaining that's he's not off having a fancy dinner.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I got the dragon =)
Same here - at least a month ago I took this, also got Knights Templar.
Besides, the game hasn't released anything. So chill out for a bit.
Also, I got Dragon as well.
I'm supporting a game I have no idea about. =D
I would hope a lot of stoners out there ponder religion, but the only reason I say this is because I feel that when someone thinks about religion and the universe in general for some extended period of time, he or she eventually finds agnosticism and accepts it.
The timer is counting down to Dec 21, 2012. Which seems to have nothing to do with the game itself, but is when the Mayan Calendar ends. I imagine something important may happen in the game mythos on that day, just speculation though.
if you've got a problem with Ultima Online, your face has a problem with my boot. but seriously, I could go for some more simplicty in the OCD driven world of online games.
I hope this is cool. I think I'd be satisfied if they just released concept art and nothing else.
Levels are unnecessary, skill and equipment based is fine depending on what style of game you're creating. Not just UO did this. Diablo is based off a skill tree without levels. I like they haven't created basic class templates, the community will have fun defining the bst means of creating the archetypes you normally find, their derivatives and new forms possible in the Secret World.
The style of everything they've shown so far has been simply amazing. Can't wait for some in game shots.
also, I wonder if that chick regrets going on a blind date?
Anima in question:
But seriously, this game looks amazing.
