It's been a little while since the last Blacklight: Retribution developer diary video was released. Today, the team is back, and still sounding as excited as ever in a new installment. They discuss not only the technology behind the game, but also the tech inside the world.
One of the first things I took away from the original teaser video was how much the style reminded me of Ghost in the Shell. The developers never make any direct statement about influence when they talk about going for a "Neo-Tokyo" look. I have my suspicion, though, that some of that type of media helped influence the look, which is not a bad thing by any means as the game footage shown so far looks great.
That may also be in part to the other side of the graphics that they tote in the video, the fidelity. I never considered the first game, Tango Down, to be a bad-looking one. That said, it's nice to see the sequel is shaping up to look better. I just hope that the final product plays as well.
The closed beta for Blacklight: Retribution begins on November 10, and you can register for it on the Blacklight website if interested.
Having played this game at PAX, I can attest that it looks great and has a smooth feel to it. It can really stand up against the other shooters coming out.
