Lot's of gaming movie news coming out thanks to panels at SDCC this year. Is it important? Of course! The proper choosing of actors for Gears of War for instance could make or break the film. A current fan favorite to be in the film is Dwayne Johnson, who was also chosen by the film's screenwriter. However, neither the fans nor the screenwriter really have much say over casting and so it appears that Johnson will not be in the Gears film at all as director Len Wiseman doesn't want to have any ties to the Doom movie.
Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con he ran through the reasons they would not be casting Johnson, and probably made the action star feel pretty bad while doing it. "A Doom connection would not be smart for us," Wiseman validly said. He then went on to add a little backhanded insult by saying the he would not choose an actor by throwing "a bunch of strongmen into the ring and see who comes out victorious… I'm looking for an actor for the role and then [I'll] put him into shape. I'm always thinking who could play the best Marcus. You want to get hooked into the character [first] and then all the amazing spectacle."
Dude, your last movie was Live Free or Die Hard, which was an awesome action film, but hardly puts you on a pulpit to reject The Rock as an actor. In my opinion Johnson is by far one of the best action stars out there, and since so far Marcus' range of emotion has been from gruff to gruffer I'm not seeing where the issue would be. Of course I secretly heart the Doom movie as a guilty pleasure so I'm probably a bit biased.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If he ain't cast, heads will roll, son.
Have you actually watched any matches Batista has had? If you could somehow make Fenix any drier any less care-worthy, you'd have Batista.
Even though its a bullshit reason not to cast him (seriously, Dooms a mostly forgotten movie by now) I personally am kind of glad Johnson/Rock wont be in the Gears movie because I honestly think it's kind of below him... the games have a pretty damn pathetic story even by video game standards, take that and throw in the standard game-to-movie-butchering filter and you have a huge stinker that will probably make Doom look like The Dark Knight.

That vid was a hoot! Pretty good for a fan piece, but I'm not sure a casting studio would grant a nod based on it.
I doubt Dwayne will care about these comments. Plus, I am hoping that by the time Marvel Studios gets around to the scheduled Namor movie, they will have the foresight to cast him as the Sub Mariner. Dwayne has lost an incredible amount of weight and actually (now) has the physique of Namor. His improved acting chops combined with his success at playing the "Rock" role (arrogant tough-guy) will put him in good stead for the role.
he could Tai is a flashback bit seeing as how they're both samoan
And Daniel Radcliff will be Cole Train, and will chainsaw bayonette Locust with his wand.
Also: pouty-pouty. :D
That's everything I wanted to say. Good job.
Obviously, Lester Speight HAS TO BE Cole. I mean, if he doesn't play him, I wouldn't even want to watch the stupid fuckin movie.
"Is there any doubt about Lester Speight as Cole?"
I was just thinking the exact same thing. He already does the voice for Cole and really, he looks just like the fucking guy! Plus he is a pretty good actor.
Dom: Dwayne Johnson/Franky G
Cole: Ving Rhames/Michael Clarke Duncan
Baird: Alan Tudyk/Ryan Reynolds/Ryan Gosling/James Callis(that one's in there for me lol, he's one of my fav actors)
Carmine: Seth Green/Breckin Meyer/Michael Cera
Victor Hoffman: Tommy Lee Jones/Kurt Russell
I couldn't think of anyone else that would fit Fenix. But I think any of these actors would do an awesome job.
I agree that Dwayne Johnson would be a great Dom, but I think he'd be a great Marcus Fenix as well.
