Shock Till You Drop has nabbed an exclusive interview with film direct Paul W.S. Anderson, where they've learned that Resident Evil: Afterlife will be following the "new" 3D fad. You know, the fad that movie makers had in the early nineties and have now suddenly decided is unique again.
Further to that, the film will be the start of a brand new trilogy, even though Milla Jovavich is still in it:
"I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films," explains Anderson. " "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."
Seriously, why did this ludicrous 3D craze ever come back? I guess that's the last of my worries, considering the fact that a new Resident Evil movie is coming in the first place, 3D or not. That explains the single white wolf I heard last night, howling at the moon before dying a sullen and mournful death.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Hum, good luck.
The only gripe I have about 3-D is that they don't fully utilize the effects throughout the film, they really only use them for about the first half hour or so, it seems - unless I am just getting used to it.
3D's a novelty to trick people into paying extra at the multiplex.
Any more questions?
Seriously though, RE is dead. Both as a video game franchise and as a movie franchise. Neither is fun or interesting anymore.
in 3-D!
One was okay the first time. Two was sort of entertaining the first time. Three sucked. Looking back they all kind of just plain suck.
I don't want anymore even if they are going to be in 3D!
Maybe they're trying to stave off the Saw/Halloween way of sequeling, but either way I have no idea why this movie franchise would need a reboot. So far its been a rather dumb, yet passable series. Good for a brainless saturday night when you dont want to think about anything..
I guess now we'll be seeing the same degree of entertainment from here to come, except with more tentacles flying in your face.
The RealD technology does some wizardry with the images and has special glasses that are polarized (similar to sunglasses. The two lenses are polarized differently in the 3D glasses they use. The left lens only lets in what the left eye should see, and the right lens only lets in what the right eye should see. This isn't much different from the colored glasses approach, except that the colored glasses had a stronger middle ground, where both eyes would lose images that were too close in color to both red and cyan. The new 3D glasses also don't have a color tint to them, which preserves the quality of the original image.
I think the 3D craze now is actually reasonable, compared to the anaglyph films of the past. There's still some problems with the new tech, but it's on the right track. If you get a chance, Jim, you should try to get out to the theater and check one out. The movie will probably suck (I saw Beowulf), but you'll see that it's not as clunky as you'd imagine. I skeptical as hell when I got suckered into seeing Beowulf, but was pleasantly surprised that the RealD tech has potential. Now if we can only get GOOD movies to use that shit (and no, Resident Evil: Afterlife will not be that movie).
