SDCC: New Marvel Super Hero Squad game announced photo

THQ has announced that its releasing yet another title based on the popular Marvel Super Hero Squad cartoon, this time bringing the game to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as the Wii and the Nintendo DS.

Called Marvel Super Heroes: The Infinity Gauntlet, it's a third-person action title that has players controlling the adorable wee-versions of their favorite Marvel heroes as they try to thwart Doctor Doom's Lethal Legion. It seems like the game will be quite similar to the Wii title, a simple (but mostly fun, I thought) third-person beat 'em up, but this time around, THQ has added a new co-op Challenge mode.

The Infinity Gauntlet will be out later this year, and will be making its premiere at San Diego Comic Con this week. On a personal note, I can't not look at the tiny Doctor Doom and feel threatened. I kind of just want to hug him.

THQ's timing for bringing out these sequels to Wii games on the PS3 and 360 seems excellent to me. There's been a general dearth of colorful family-friendly content on the HD consoles, which I guess makes sense because of their price which made them unappealing for parents while not stoppping older gamers with a taste for mature-rated and gritty stuff.

With the price drops (and if Sony's and MS's wishes are realized, with the arrival of Move and Kinect), the HD consoles should be appearing in more children's rooms.

Wonder if this will pay off for THQ.

Oh please God, let them include the Punisher. I'm dying to see how they'd write this:

"He's cute! He's cuddly! He saw his family murdered by gangsters! D'AAAWWW!"
