It's become so fashionable to take shots at Halo but it is in fact still one of the most addictive multiplayer shooters of all time.
I have to disagree with you. The Halo mythos really benefits having a single focal character to point to. ODST had an interesting campaign, but it wasn't nearly as interesting switching between members of a squad as it is playing as a single savior figure. In Reach your squad mates looks a little bit more interesting, but the main character is basically the same; a quiet 'newguy.'
I think the savior persona of Master Chief really compliments the "rush out with your balls out" sort of gameplay, and I think that the single-player benefits from this.
Ultimately it comes down to multiplayer, but I think a lot of people underestimate the value of Halo's single player campaigns for sales. I honestly think Master Chief might make a million or two copies difference, especially if 343 has yet to prove that they can handle the Halo series effectively.
I am convinced there's a demand for Master Chief. People go apeshit over him and he is popular. Perhaps your opinion is based on how negative the blogging community is with regards to halo in general and not sales figures.
Of course the longevity of halo is down to the multiplayer. I'm not a fan of the halo series but I can't deny that Bungie are fantastic when it comes to multiplayer and listening to it's fans.
Oh and the stupid sword thigns.
Uuuuuuhhhhhhh. Meh.
Seriously this story will go on and on and on and on until people stop paying for it.
M-M-M-M.A.S.K!
I pity you and your jaded, stereotypical view.
You and sexual chocolate should have children so that when you both die your legacy can continue.
As always, we kind of enjoy Sexualchocolates trolling, we accept him because he doesnt go out of his way to insult people, and when he does, its blatantly for humours sake.
Please, for the love of the community, cowsick....fuck away off.
Oh, and Xbots? Fucks sake, try and have an original though in your head once a decade.
Keep believing that buddy.
I won't even try to defend against your spurious claims of xbox exclusive bullshit for I fear such simple reasoning would simply confuse you.
Why not put your padded helmet on and go run around in your garden for a bit?
Agreed. Sexual chocolate and I have debate on many occasions. Cowsick is just dumb.
Dumb as a box of hair. He couldn't pour water out of a boot with instructions on the heel.
Blees him.
Cowsick - Thanks Bro *brofist*
Although, technically, WE "should" leave Halo threads alone. But it's just too difficult when there's so little else going on round here.
Although I have an actual, active, strong dislike towards Halo and complete confusion as to WHY it's so popular. So I suppose that kinda gives me a reason to post here, even if I'm a bit of a dick about it sometimes.
Gotta be that codpiece. Gotta be.
Just a while question then in gone......
If there are better games than halo could you please explain to me why it sells more and gets played more than the "better" games you have in mind?
No trolling. No flaming. Just a straight, serious, well thought out answer to show me (and anyone else who is reading this) why you think the way you do.
I agree mostly...
...but early Halo games had a pretty positive influence on gaming, the whole "games need an online mode" thing is pretty sweet but it's been milked since then, and for such a mediocre (shit in my opinion) game it really does have a seriously hardcore following. Weird.
How bout you man the fuck up, drop the 300 bucks on a new 360, and maybe even 200 on a Wii, and then you can play every game for all 3 consoles and not feel the need to leave such ridiculous comments. Obviously you're just upset that you can't enjoy something, oh, about 10 million people have enjoyed over the past 9 or so years.
And saying Halo has had a negative influence? WTF does that mean? So now making quality games means you're having a negative influence? What are you, a fucking Nazi? Yes, other, better games do exist, but if you fail to see the appeal nor the quality of the Halo series you do so at your own peril. Shame you've been missing out on some good times.
I'm gonna guess the real problem is that you're an immature little bitch who doesn't have 3 friends to play and enjoy the campaign with. Grow up.
I have to agree with sexualchocolate and cowsick
Halo is mediocre at best, and it's sad to see +100 thou people online in it still when there are way way way better games to play. Personally, I switched to PC from xbawks, and after playing such amazing games like tf2, l4d1+2, bfbc2, cs:s, hl2ep:1+2, Fallout 3, farcry 2, i could go on for a while, you get the point. As soon as I PLAYED team fortress 2 the first time, halo was dead to me. and it always will be. Unless their releasing Halo 4 on pc, your not gonna see my ass on it. As a reference to my halo fandom douchery: http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Halo3/Default.aspx?player=xOatmealNinjaxX
Also, if your still playing Halo after that bullshit 2 hour $60 dollar expansion *ahem* ODST *ahem* Just bend over and let M$ stick it in your ass once more. It probably won't hurt as bad this time.
You only find halos popularity weird because you don't like it, why is that so hard for you to understand? Why must you understand why people like it? Does it bother you that much that people like something you don't? You have the mentality of a child. The more i see you post, the more I pity you.
Hype accounts for sales, without a doubt but there are more people playing halo online than any game as old as halo.
Hype may make you buy a game but it certainly doesn't make you keep playing it. Surely good gameplay and a fun online mode keeps people playing.
You may not like it. You may not be able to adjust your jaded view to accept it and you certainly can't stop it.
Halo is popular and good. I don't like it but I'm mature enough to appreciate it.
That retort was hardly mature.
Also, do you have a job? Or did mommy and daddy buy you all those nice new toys? Not everyone can afford all three systems. And generally when people make a bad decision their forced to stick with it. Also, console wars have been going on since snes vs.genisis get over it. OhMAHGAD he called me an xbot. he MUST be a ps3 fanboy.
As for having a negative influence on gaming; yeah it's pretty annoying these days to have standard recharging health in every goddamn game, ever. Also, every damn game stars a silent protagonist.
Clearly you've got nothing better to do with your time than put down the Xbox 360, which may I remind you is a fucking METAL BOX filled with computer components and electronics. Think about that for a second before you finish masturbating to videos of your mother getting nailed by gorillas.
You seem incapable of understanding that people are still playing these games today.
Do you thunk it's because Microsoft told them to or because (wait for it!!!) they my actually be good games that are fun to play.
Take your tinfoil hat and fuck off.
IGNORE MY VALID POINTS FOR I HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE. Fuck you guys.
you mention half life 2 and why you love pc gaming, then bash on the silent protagonist, which was fucking invented by the half life series. nice work.
Looking at the metacritic, we see that inFamous only has an 85. Now, I don't put too much stock into stuff like that, but it's clearly not AAA when compared to other games on the console, seeing as how it's not even in the top 20 highest rated games on that particular console.
I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about the scores of one game or the quality of that game in general. I've already said it's an excellent game, very well made, extremely well "crafted". It's just not that original or mind blowing or, well, different. It does not stand out from the crowd and certainly wasn't and won't be responsible for moving consoles anytime soon.
For the record I own all 3 consoles plus 2 highly capable gaming PCs. I play the best games on each of them to the best my abilities and means. Get a better job or save your money and you too can get yourself on the path of enlightenment.
It's a mascott series that's meant to be milked a bit. Sony would do well to find themselves a front man as popular as the Chief. The powers that be at MS had better pray that 343 does a decent job of it though, or fans might drop the series like Crash Bandicoot.

Beat me to it. Also, agreed. Mediocre beat-em-up is mediocre. Much rather play Ninja Gaiden.
