At Capcom's Comic-Con panel last night, Keiji Inafune suggested that 2010 is going to be a very good year for Mega Man. I would hope so, because that trailer for Mega Man Universe which released the other day suggests some very bold ideas. But that's apparently not all that Inafune is talking about.
No, Inafune said that there's something else coming, noting that no mention of this had yet been made to the press. When pressed by the audience for more information, all he would reveal is that it's something that Mega Man fans have been requesting of the developer for many years.
Before we all get excited and say that this is going to be Mega Man Legends 3, let's take a deep breath. It could be anything. I'm sure there's a contingent of people out there who have been asking Capcom to revive Battle Network. Mega Man Soccer needs a current-gen remake desperately and there's always the vain hope of a new Power Battles game to cling to. Actually, that last one isn't a bad idea.
My job is to report and yours is to speculate. I've done my part. Have you done yours?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm not really counting on it. But oh, how cool it would be...
The only thing I can think that people may be requesting is the next installment of Mega Man X. But I gotta be honest Legends did leave us in a cliffhanger and it bears a sequel!
Not sure if it's worth updating the article to include what's basically just speculation, but it is worth reading anyway.
Please, for the love of God, let this be Legends 3. Seriously, put it on a VMU for all I care, I'll still pay for it.
I would also kill another human being for a new Mega Man X.
I'm one of those people.
Legends 3 would rock, though...
Yeah I don't think starforce cut it as a replacement for BN.
Also Network transmission (the gamecube BN spinoff) seriously deserves more love because the concept was brilliant (a metroidvania-ish sidescroller and battle chips as powers), even if the execution left a bit to be desired.
No, no it did not. The whole three-panels-of-movement thing really ruined a lot of strategy, as all you needed was to hit down to melee.
Only played partial bits of Network Transmission. I should find that game...
If BN returns, they better bring back Battle Network 4's free space. While 4 was arguably the worst of the series, it had one of the greatest innovations that didn't survive past it. The free space was awesome, it took battle data from people you've fought, and formed a tournament tier to battle through to get new chips. I can't possibly fathom why it was left out of 5 and 6.
"Mega Man Universe "won't be out for a while," according to Ito, but when it does arrive, it will come to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade."
Ugh. So does this mean it's for the PSN & XBLA? Might be a HD remake of Legends series which would be alright with me. But I want a new Legends game that's on a disc.
Mega Man Universe =/= the other Mega Man thing Inafune is teasing. MMU is it's own thing entirely.
But yeah, I mean, my logic brain tells me there is absolutely no doubt it is a new MML game.... but... as time as taught me in the video game industry, very rarely does "sound logic" pan out.
Give me that, or the ability to make that happen in MMU.
Or, better yet, do up a giant 4-player Megaman fighter that plays like Power Stone.
Thank God. I was a bit down there for a moment. I never thought I'd be this excited for a Mega Man game again. If it is Legends 3 then I'm sure that Legends 1 & 2 and hopefully Tron Bonne are going to turn up on PSN & XBLA. I miss playing those games.
So as a life-long Megaman die hard, I would peg it on either (A) Powered Up! 2/Maverick Hunter 2, (B) Megaman Legends 3, or (C) Megaman 11.
this is all assuming it isnt something completely new; Universe seems more along the lines of throwback/revival concept, so there exists a possibility of something completely and totally new for the Megaman IP. That alone has me excited.
Megaman BN storyline finished in MMBN 6 and Star Force isn't too good.So I would prefer a new Megaman RPG.
I hope...
If not, I'd be fine with Legends 3. They left the dude on the moon at the end of 2, so I'd like to know what the heck happens next. And I'm always up for more Tron Bonne :)
