About an hour ago, we broke the news about Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter. We might have to wait on Namco Bandai before we get more info on the latter title, but screens and video of the former are already available.

I'm loving the way the game looks. I don't actually play Tekken that much, but I can't deny that Nina and Kazuya are iconic characters, and it's great to see them going up against Dan, Ryu, and Chun Li. Now that the Tekken cast is in a fighter that only uses the X and Y axises, I wonder if they're going to get new moves? Kazuya with an fireball would be pretty bad ass.

Check out the video above, and the screens in the gallery, and tell me what you think.

That Megaman/Pacman thing at the end looked like one epic little tease there...

I'm happy that Street Fighter X Tekken looks like it's going to play more like Street Fighter, and less like the Capcom Vs. games. I've always felt that the Street Fighter games were superior to the Vs. series.

Also, Pac-Man chasing Mega Man at the end was the best thing ever.

@ Hasney- I hate to take the bait, but as can you really say that Kazuya is more generic than Ryu, the "Karate man with a headband"?

I love Ryu, but from a character design perspective, he's no work of genius.

Pretty cool, I just hope it isn't so like SFIV that it becomes SFIV: Tekken Edition.

@holmes, I think he was merely trying to say that they all have the same move set. which is punch and kick the end. Not the character design itself...

Well said.

As much as I love fighting games, they all seem to be plagued with character re-skins.

@Holmes

But they've developed him quite well, struggling with a balance of inner evil power but wanting to be the best. His antagonists in Bison wanting to mind control him as a weapon and Akuma wanting to bring out his rage so he has a worthy opponent is quite the story.

Compared to Tekken. Kazyuas evil, tries to kill his dad, loves the devil, bends some other fighter bitch over a couch and there's a new devil, who goes a touch emo and then is forgotten about as a main character to make someone else main for a bit.

If you think about the different fight styles of the two games too, unless one of the sides is radically changed, it can't work. And if it's radically changed, it's a tad pointless and we may have had CvS 3 or a new Capcom All-Stars.

I don't normally play fighters but this may just open the door to NEW possiblilties... Oh, who am I kidding, I know the only thing that will make me purchase a new fighting game is 1)It's really cheap or 2)It's Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat.

To be fair, for hand to hand combat, I prefer VF and that has even less character story wise.

Even then, I'd be WTFing at VF Vs. SF, even though they're my fave 3D and 2D/2.5D fighters.

At least there's SSF4/BlazBlue/SF3/TvC, a bunch of XBLA SNK fighters and, depending on how they turn out, MvC3/KOFXIII/MK.

Wish people who've played MK would stop saying it's awesome. I've only ever liked UMK3, bit it's sounding good.

@ Hasney- Oh, you meant in terms of story?

Yeah, I don't really care about the story of Street Fighter or Tekken. What matters to me is the characters, and what the express visually, both in their fighting styles and their character design.

When it comes to that, I think Kazuya and Nina are both pretty rad.

I am still viewing this as a misstep on Capcom's part. They've been on fire lately with their franchises, and while I can't blame them for wanting to try something new, they could have at least gone with a better franchise to pair up with. Tekken has a vastly different play style and fan base than Street Fighter does, and the two do not mix well (remember Street Fighter EX). I find it frustrating that this is even happening that time that could be spent making a new Darkstalkers game is spent making this train wreck.

As for the people who compare this to a "serious" crossover like Capcom vs SNK 2, please don't insult my intelligence. The characters blended together really well thanks to the similar play styles of the fighters from the two companies. There was even the whole Ryu-Ryo-Dan thing. If you were to mix Tekken with a game that fit its play style, you'd want Virtua Fighter. That would be a more likely comparison.

In the end, I am frustrated by this. It won't stop me from playing the other (good) Capcom games I love, but the wound still stings.

I always skipped story in fighting games until Alpha 3. The way everyones stories linked together with that amount of characters was fairly genius, especially considering you could have a bad ending too <3

@Brian Keljore, logic is spot on my friend! honestly everyone I've seemed to talk to so far just don't give a damn about this title so far, at least all the streetfighter die hards I know, they're not bashing it, they just don't care. If anything the one who are seeming to get all reved up for this game are the angst filled tekken junkies just because they wanna kick the crap out of the street fighter cast.

@ Brian Keljore and amx70s - I don't know guys, I think you ought to play the game first before you get so negative.

What if this wasn't "Street Fighter V Tekken", and instead was just a new Street Fighter IV upgrade with tons of new characters? What if you didn't know who Kazuma and Nina were already? What if you let go of whatever resentment you may have towards Tekken and it's fans, and just get excited about a new fighter from Capcom that uses the SF4 engine?

If you're not a Tekken fan, I can see why you wouldn't be interested in Tekken X Street Fighter, but if you're an SF fan, why wouldn't you want a new SF game? Just because it has Tekken characters in it?

That's weird to me.

Also, I'd like CvS3 or Darkstalkers 4 as well, but we already have three games from those two series. It's nice to get something totally new, don't you think?

@ Hansey- Oh sure, I don't expect you to be frothing at the mouth for this game. I just hope that you don't totally write it off yet either.

Inbreds can be super hot sometimes. A lot of people wrote of TvC because of it's bizarre linage, and they ended up missing out on one of the best Vs. fighters yet.

@homles, I'm not bashing the game at all, I'm going to pick it up for sure (the capcom version) mainly because I'm a sucker for fighters and own everyone in existance to date. Doesn't change the fact that this announcement was just a little disapointing in terms of it could have been something much more crowd pleasing than this. You can see the lack of interest in that original vid you posted, and the way ono was building it up, it was going to be something the fans have been wanting forever, and then it was like...."oh....okay."

Oh, and I truly do feel that tekken went to shit after tag. The true last good tekken game.

I'll admit, I really dislike Tekken. What I am more concerned about is the number of adjustments they will have to make to the SF4 engine to balance the game play. In a game where there are projectiles, teleporters, and men with stretching limbs, how are they going to fight in a wealth of characters who rely primarily on close quarters combat and juggling to get their damage in? The only character I can really think of (aside from the notoriously cheap boss characters) who can contend with all that is Yoshimitsu. And it is kind of boring that most of the "new" characters are going to be close quarters fighters when there is already a wealth of excellent brawlers in the Street Fighter line up.

And that's not even bringing the fact that Tekken has a Left-Right button system as opposed to a weak-Strong system for their attack buttons.

It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I just dont like the two separeted games aspect of the deal. It will just split more the community. tekken lovers gonna buy the tekken one and SF bitches will buy the other. They should do both in one game and you select the style of the combat before matches.

They've developed him quite well. He wants to be the best, like he is Goku in DragonballZ or something. Bison is his best enemy who has emo feelings toward him, while Akuma keeps on being mean and makes Ryu mad.

Compared to Tekken, Kazuya had grown up raised by his grandfather and trained to enter the Iron Fist Tournament. He than faced his father whom has been overtaken by the darkness within. Ultimately Kazuya defeats his father and inherits that darkness.

lol, fighting game story lines

@Keljore didn't you watch the video of ono and harada playing each other? kazuya had no problem against projectiles with a duck move and i doubt theyd change the sf4 engine. theyd just make moves for tekken characters so that they have a chance.

in the end the guys making this game know what theyre doing, i doubt theyd just make a sack of unbalanced shit.

I’m just wondering what they’re going to do about those characters who are so alike. Fei Long and Law are both basically Bruce Lee, Honda and Ganryu are both sumo guys, I’m sure there are other examples but they escape me right now. Would they only have one appear in each game? Like, Law is only in Tekken X Street Fighter and Fei Long is only in Street Fighter X Tekken?

I don’t care as long as we get Zangief vs Kuma because that needs to happen. Hell, that should be a game all by itself.

@ Brian Keljore- If they do what they implied they are going to to, which is make SFxT play just like Street Fighter and TxSF play just like Tekken, I don't think we'll have a problem.

Capcom is amazing at taking characters from other games and making them work in 2D fighters. If they can make Roll, Saki, Frank West, and Amateratsu work in a 2D fighter, I'm sure they'll have no problem with the cast from Tekken.
