Scribblenauts announces a special announcement coming photo

If you're like me or Jim "Not as cool as Hamza" Sterling, you found Scribblenauts to be a valiant effort that bit off a bit more than it could chew... and had crappy controls. Still, if you're like me and Jim, you can't seem to put the game down despite all its flaws, and random coincidences that are not actually flaws. For those of us in this situation 5th Cell's recent post at the game's Facebook page is intriguing. The page is teasing a special announcement for the game.

"Get your rooster hats ready! We have a very special announcement coming very soon..." the post reads. What could it be? It seems far too soon for sequel talk, especially for a brand new IP. Are we going to see some sort of word expanding DLC through the Wii or DSiWare? That's probably some hopeful dreaming, but if they did it I'd be far more excited about both the download services. Maybe they're bringing the game to another platform, but without the stylus' touch spelling or writing I don't see it working as well. Only the future can tell.

Downloadable content, maybe? Free nouns would be neat.

For some reason I feel this would have been better on a Wii.

A Wii version would definitely help with more words, more art, A.I., better controls....

@daxelman

I really dont see how on the wii it'd have better controls. Imagine pointing everywhere, It'd be the same.. or worse.

Also remember how a USB keyboard will work on a Wii as well.

The announcement says "very soon." Is it optimistic to think it'll come this week? Dark decades of Valve Time have skewed my sense of the 4th dimension.

@lem: well, obviously, I was thinking of using the WiiMote for selecting/moving objects, and then using the D-Pad for everything else.

I don't think 5th Cell is that WiiMote hungry.

Then again, this is coming from someone who has only had trouble with selecting objects, so yeah....

Patch? I don't know how they could do it, but these controls are frustrating the Hell out of me.

I'll take the longshot odds and guess that Mr. Destructoid will be added to the game's dictionary.

I can only expect an XBLA release, seeing as that Major Nelson had the developers on last week's blogcast show.

By Whiskey's logic, I'd jump to the conclusion of a Zune HD port to put that jammie on the map.

Otherwise, it sounds like hotfix/patch time.

If what Magic Whiskey said turns out to be turns out be true... Holy shit. I will jizz over that news.

I predict that they're going to announce Scribblenauts for iPhones, and possibly Zune HD.

Awe... I thought I was clever for thinking of iPhone/Zune ports, but apparently everyone else already beat me to it.

Nah, it's actual stocks of rooster hats. Seriously, only one in a Gamestop-y store in our area, and I/we couldn't have it since three per-orderers have yet to claim their copy of the game, and PO bonuses are always the POers', no matter the time it takes to claim 'em. Such short supply, these delicious prop swags! *sigh* However, if it, by chances, is still there my mid-October, I can take it, since it's been pleeenty of time for one of 'em to come claim it.

I don't care how they do it, if they could put a D-Pad control patch on there, I would be SOOOOOO pleased.

And yes, I realize that's segmenting the market and blah, but it's still a fucking good idea for those of us who have DSis.

I can see this game working much better with pointer controls and one screen. It's not like the top screen is used for much anyway.

Oh well. Someone with a rooster hat let me know what the news is, okay?
