Scribblenaut artist does Street Fighter, Final Fantasy VII photo

I know, I know. It's probably not responsible of me to keeping hyping Scribblenauts to hell and back. You could even say that I'm biased towards 5th Cell's upcoming do-anything puzzler, but I can't help it -- Maxwell and his rooster helmet have won me over. He's quite the charming little dude.

Edison Yan is an artist with 5th Cell who became internet famous after immortalizing the now-infamous "Post #217" with a painting of his own. Perhaps taking cues from intrepid NeoGAF users who took it upon themselves to recreate some of their favorite characters in Scibblenauts' signature style, Yan has some tributes of his own. The Street Fighter series and Final Fantasy VII have both gotten the treatment so far, and they are posted to his blog.

Yan has miniaturized the entire roster from Street Fighters II, III, Alpha, and IV, with Blanka's mechanical mouth and Zangief's blocky beard being my favorite. Of course, he skipped the OG Street Fighter, since no one actually played it, as well as the EX series because everybody hated it. On the other hand, my favorite from the Final Fantasy VII set has got to be Cait Sith -- he's a little rotundo.

Scibblenauts will be released on September 15th for the DS, giving me another two months to post as many cute things as I can about it.

These are sweet. The only thing I don't like is the "no mouth" characters. Ryu and Ken can have a mouth, but Guile can't? I know it's his style, but it looks weird to have a big ol' face with no mouth and a couple of little eyes.

I wish MS had really taken a chance with avatars and gone a direction like this. If you're going to make them cutesy, make them badass cutesy like these are.

These are pretty nifty but, you know, I think Ashley David could give this guy a run for his money. She should develop some Machiavellian scheme to get this guy's job.

So cute, but where does he find time to do stuff like this when he has to make sure there is artwork done for everything that ever existed?

Disappointed they resorted to drawing FF7 characters to cash in some publicity.

Get some originality guys!

@Aurain-
You serious? Just because the guy did art for scribblenauts means he can't do free art for anything, ever?

Get some brains guy!

Also, he should do some Guilty Gear characters.

Except it's blatant cashing in.

"Let's get the FF7 crowd interested in this"
when he could have gone into a bit further depth, and thrown in a character from each FF.

Not impressive.

My word, man. Why don't we just ask this artist to draw world leaders from the past 200 years. There's no monetary value in that. Doesn't raise awareness about this game much if he does that, but man, couldn't accuse him for being in it for the money...

Is it easy being that jaded or does it take concerted effort?
tirkaro's Avatar

@Aurain

What Tubatic said, and it was something done by the artist, not the company making the game. Seriously, he's just an artist, leave him alone.
