In their latest Top 10, ScrewAttack chalked up their list of the top 10 Mario titles -- no easy feat, considering Mario's colossal 200+ game appearances. One caveat, though: to be considered for zee list, the player has to be able to play as Mario in the game, so Mario Picross fans might be a wee bit disappointed. Spoiler alert: coming in at numero uno was SMB3, which will come as a great surprise to almost nobody in particular. A fan favorite for nearly 20 years, Mario's final romp on the NES routinely stomps the competition, even if some folks don't believe it be the last word on platforming that some others would claim.
The hell are you looking at me like that for? Okay, fine, I'll admit that I preferred Super Mario World to SMB3. I got a thing for dinosaurs, capes, and games that combine those elements, what of it? Hell -- if it wasn't for the fact that Mario was required to be the main playable character to be included in ScrewAttack's lineup, I might even suggest that Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island be placed at the top of the heap. That's right: ultimate blasphemy. I can already feel hatred so thick I could pour it on my corn flakes.
Anyways, this top 10 has been posted everywhere, but damn it, we haven't had a good ol' fashioned fanboy melee in quite awhile. I want to see some blood spilled in those comments, especially if that blood belongs to Nex. His favorite is Mario's Time Machine, owing perhaps to his quaint fascination with, y'know, learning.
Dr. Mario, one of the best Mario games? Bullshit. It's enjoyable, but nowhere near on the level of something like, say, Super Mario World, Mario Tennis, or even PAPER MARIO (which they used as a Mario icon with the title of every game, but never listed)?
Seriously, omitting any mention of the Paper Mario/Mario & Luigi series has to be illegal on some level.
And while Smash Bros. is amazing, I question its inclusion on the list (by the same logic, is Mario & Sonic at the Olympics valid? yes, but it shouldn't be), especially at the expense of PAPER MARIO.
What? No Mario is Missing? Well I guess you play Luigi in that game so it really wouldn't count. Come on though, a sub-licensed Mario game made by The Software Toolworks? What about that couldn't suck?
And no love for Super Mario Bros. 2! Even though it wasn't supposed to be a Mario game, it was still incredibly fun and DIFFERENT than other Mario games.

I'm all about the learning, and for that, I'd always go for Mario is Missing! rather than Mario's Time Machine, but then I guess that would have to be excluded from the list because you don't play as Mario. You know. 'Cause he's missing.
Yeah, but by that same token should Mario Kart be on the list then? Granted it's only nintendo characters, but you guys are complaining about Smash since it has so many people from different franchises.
I think SMRPG should have been higher is my only comment along with Dr. Mario is stupid to be put on the list.

I guess that makes two of us. I didn't realize until recent years that apparently hardly anyone enjoyed SMB 2 but me. It's possibly my favorite!
I dunno what it is about the SMB2 non-affection in fans. It's totally my favorite too. poor little reject, i choo-choo-choose you over SMB3 any day.
