I'm a blasphemer, I suppose. Everyone was telling me of how bad of a raging clue they've suffered towards Portal. Thing is, I had owned The Orange Box for three months before finally playing through Portal about two weeks ago. It wasn't until then that I finally understood the whole Weighted Companion Cube phenomenon. Granted, it took me about three seconds to dump the Cube into the incinerator ...

Anyway, Ben over at DoofyCrap made a couple of actual weighted Weighted Companion Cubes. The Cubes are made out of two-by-two inch aluminum blocks. Ben then used CAD to sculpt the hearts on the Cube and he painted the hearts to which he gave to his siblings as gifts. Ben will also be working on another one for himself that is going to be made out of acrylic plastic. Don't hold your breath for mass production though. But hey, maybe if you ask Husky Hog nicely, he'll make a wooden one for you!

Now this is what Valve should be producing! To get the true Weighted Companion Cube experience, the Cube has to be weighted damn it ... and hurt people when throwing them at their faces! And I wasn't kidding about immediately dumping the damn thing into the incinerator. How long did it take you to burn it?

Win.

Also, it took me a few seconds to dump it in there too.

I haven't beat the game yet (I just got it 6 days ago) but this very morning I just the Weighted Companion Cube and I already fell in love... I just hope valve will sell the plush at 30 bucks again after they earn enough for the child's play donation I really want one.
Spykron's Avatar
yea massachusetts state quarter! oh and cool paper weight.

This is awesome! I love Portal so I must get this.

I was hoping you would say something like, "Click this link to buy it" but that never happened :(

Am I the only one that didn't care about the companion cube? The portal gun was my true companion...
bottled dark's Avatar
i want one so freaking bad.

i'm stuck in portal because i refuse to kill my cube.

i did on the other hand incinerate all the cameras i could from that level.
Cheeburga's Avatar
Do want.
Neonie's Avatar
I just stood there...holding it in front of the incinerator. When it would close I would go push the button there and stand there again :C.

(Actully I did have to re-open it about twice but still...)
Aberrant Thought's Avatar
Hmmm I wonder if I could become an internet icon if I get a tattoo of the WCC?

*debates idea with wine*

companion cube key chains ?
RJG's Avatar
Isn't there a rather convoluted way to save the companion cube? I heard as much, but never really followed through. I might try it out.
TheStripe's Avatar
Must . . . save . . . WCC . . .
itemforty's Avatar
That is awesome.
KyleGamgee's Avatar
It took me a good long time to destroy it. I had found two Rat's Nests so I had really started to get attached to it. I looked eveywhere to see if there was some possible way to continue without destroying it. Ultimately, I had to proceed. I had to destroy it.

I was sad.
Necros's Avatar
I still need to play this game, sadly.

I remember when I destoryed my companion cube - no hesitation...almost. I did kind of laugh when I got an "Achievement Unlocked" for it. The description was perfect: Fratricide - "Do what it takes to survive"
KamikazeTutor's Avatar
What's more amazing is that Valve isn't suing left and right on these thirdparty stuff. They could, but they aren't.

See Nintendo? That's how it's done, leave the fans being fans.

I love you actual weighted Weighted Companion Cube.

I love how people are going crazy for the companion cube, but I don't get it all the same.

Do want! Although I still would prefer an official weighted one, certified and everything.

@Heretic I'm so sorry I didn't think it was that big!!

@13thDragon
You obviously don't love it as much as everyone else if you're saying that.
WillyFourEyes's Avatar
That is most definitely a winning figurine. I want to have a companion cube as a keychain...but I'm no good with modeling and stuff.
wardrox's Avatar
awww, now I'm all sad because I don't has one.
Bluefusion's Avatar
I would buy a companion cube keychain in a heartbeat.

That companion cube looks like it could be a good paperweight.
Thornnn's Avatar
I would like a companion cube coffee table or end tables maybe.
Kairiaku's Avatar

Took me a couple minutes but only because I couldn't figure out how to open the incinerator.

I think a resounding DO WANT is in order here.

It doesn't count unless it's lifesize.

nice :) It took me a while to incinerate the WCC, I was really trying to save the little thing :) Too bad they didn't include a terribly hard way to save it.

oh and...do want. :P

sevendash's Avatar
I would give up sex for a week to get my hands on a good Companion Cube like this.
JOURN3Y's Avatar
this reminds me of Aeris of FFVII, how people wanted to save her in the game. alas, she must die, as the WCC must die.
Xelotath's Avatar
What the hell comparing a cube to a character from FFVII.. that's rude to the WCC.
Munin's Avatar
As the joke goes; one is a carefully crafted, fully fleshed out character and the other an inanimate object...
