Screw plushies! Check out the actual weighted Weighted Companion Cube photo
     Valve

I'm a blasphemer, I suppose. Everyone was telling me of how bad of a raging clue they've suffered towards Portal. Thing is, I had owned The Orange Box for three months before finally playing through Portal about two weeks ago. It wasn't until then that I finally understood the whole Weighted Companion Cube phenomenon. Granted, it took me about three seconds to dump the Cube into the incinerator ...

Anyway, Ben over at DoofyCrap made a couple of actual weighted Weighted Companion Cubes. The Cubes are made out of two-by-two inch aluminum blocks. Ben then used CAD to sculpt the hearts on the Cube and he painted the hearts to which he gave to his siblings as gifts. Ben will also be working on another one for himself that is going to be made out of acrylic plastic. Don't hold your breath for mass production though. But hey, maybe if you ask Husky Hog nicely, he'll make a wooden one for you!

Now this is what Valve should be producing! To get the true Weighted Companion Cube experience, the Cube has to be weighted damn it ... and hurt people when throwing them at their faces! And I wasn't kidding about immediately dumping the damn thing into the incinerator. How long did it take you to burn it?

I just stood there...holding it in front of the incinerator. When it would close I would go push the button there and stand there again :C.

(Actully I did have to re-open it about twice but still...)

Isn't there a rather convoluted way to save the companion cube? I heard as much, but never really followed through. I might try it out.

It took me a good long time to destroy it. I had found two Rat's Nests so I had really started to get attached to it. I looked eveywhere to see if there was some possible way to continue without destroying it. Ultimately, I had to proceed. I had to destroy it.

I was sad.

I remember when I destoryed my companion cube - no hesitation...almost. I did kind of laugh when I got an "Achievement Unlocked" for it. The description was perfect: Fratricide - "Do what it takes to survive"

What's more amazing is that Valve isn't suing left and right on these thirdparty stuff. They could, but they aren't.

See Nintendo? That's how it's done, leave the fans being fans.
