Screenshots of Magic: The Gathering Tactics' green beasts photo

The green color of Mana in Magic: The Gathering is supposed to be representative of life and growth, which naturally means that it's a creature-heavy color type to play. Hence these images sent to us featuring a manner of beasts which may be summoned and sent to fight.

When I played the card-based version of the game, Green was one of my favorite colors to play. The experience of building an army of worthless creatures which can then steamroll through gives this color some great rush opportunities.

Their site said "Coming out holidays 2010!"

Hmm....we're rapidly running out of 2010...

Ugh. A big part of the card game comes from it's artful illustrations, but this looks painfully generic.

I LOVE Magic The Gathering and i think this is going to end up been a flop. Magic the gathering should stay on what it is A CARD GAME.

ELVES FTW!

I also love MTG and I'm actually excited about this game, even though it does't look that great.

The reason for that is because hopefully it'll give us people like me (who love magic and would like to play, but have no one to play against) a chance to enjoy Magic.

Other than elves, building big armies of "worthless bodies" is sort of White's domain now. Green is all about giant dudes.

From my understanding, this will fail miserably. It took years for people to finally come around to magic online, and that has the ability to 'cash out' into physical cards. This here is nothing more than a completely separate economy that has no relation to the original game. Without that connection, it's as if they're launching an entirely new IP instead of extending an already existing one.

@Deus I think it is more like expanding what they've already got going. Wizards of the Coast have really been trying to get the "Magic" name back out there for the past couple of years. Some of the ways they've been doing this is, improving their service for Magic Online, and trying to get people in on the regular card game through things like the seemingly failed "MTG Battlegrounds", (released on Xbox and PC a couple of years back) and "Battle of the Plainswalkers" games. (on Xbox live and Steam today.)

This is just another way to reach their brand name out beyond the card game arena to get more customers. I really have to agree with
@esin though. About the artwork being a big draw. However, if people playing this new game are not former players, than they wouldn't know the difference. On the downside, it could just give them the feeling that all of magic looks that generic. :P

i been collecting cards now for 15 years. i love magic, but all the video games have been shit.

but i love building decks and rock a killer sliver deck. as long as my warding slivers comes out quick, i'm unbeatable. top it with a magma sliver and you're dead.

@cyclonex3: the difference is that mtg battlegrounds and duels of the plainswalkers were that they were stand alone games. There was some DLC, but in the form of complete decks that you have complete knowledge of what you're buying. But they are planning on releasing 'packs' of digital content in the form of boosters. You're essentially buying yet another set of the same cards we've used for years.
They're basically launching a second magic online with slightly streamlined rules, 3d graphics, and no chance of being able to redeem for physical content.

I remember Battlegrounds. Something between dodgeball and fight game. Very weird.

N'way, it's the rigth time to investe in Magic because nerd things are cool now. Super heroes movies, Team Fortress, Bioware.

@Deus Interesting! I had no idea. I just looked up a bunch of info on Tactics.

("They're basically launching a second magic online with slightly streamlined rules, 3d graphics, and no chance of being able to redeem for physical content.")

Yes, it definitely looks like they are, however, who is that for? The marketing talk is that it's going to be a "free-to-play" (+ paying for booster packs :P )"strategy game". What you and I know is MTG online (pretty much MTG in general). It's the same thing, but they're giving it a fresh coat of paint. Not for people already on MTGOL or playing the card game, but for a new generation of customers.

With marketing talk like "free to play" and "strategy game", it's pure temptation for all those newbs out there that've never played a single game of magic before! There's way too many kids out there, not doing anything at all. Just surfing the web, and clicking on any banner that says "free to play". I've done my share lol. Dungeon Fighter anyone? XD

As for booster packs... same old microtransaction junk we're putting up with in all those other "free to play" games out there right now. Same ploy old name. They're in new water for them, 'n lookin' for fresh meat.

Im a massive fan of Mtg, but this really looks kinda meh.
They should just put MTGO in the Duels of the Planeswalkers engine. Now thats something i would love wasting money on.

Ummm.... Yeah what is this going to be for PC,360,PS3????

btw anyone that has a problem with a different format should get over themselves. I mean come on do you flip out over when ever you see a Super Mario game? Cuz last I checked that guy is all over the place and he seems to be doing fine.

@RPT111: PC and PS3.
Well, Mtg and Super Mario arent nearly the same thing. I dont mind the new format, what bothers me is that the new format looks uninteresting. No worries though, im still gonna check it out. Its F2P, what do i have to lose?

woah wait, what are those numbers... They dont look like normal magic numbers, 60 life, 40 attack? Creatures have life.....maybe this uses the branding/base concepts yet plays totally different to mtg.

Unless of course they've just gone and multiplied everything by 10.

Explaining why Jace has 200 life, and that troll zombie thing is really just a 4/6 creature, not a 40/60. But then why do planeswalkers have an attack value?
