Screenshots from the upcoming WiiWare Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles photo

During Nintendo's Fall 2007 Conference, we heard a bit about a new Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles title that would kick off the upcoming WiiWare channel, and now a few more details and some screen shots have been released.

In Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land, you become the Young King named Leo. As Leo, you use a memory-based crystal power called "The Architect" to rebuild your land. This power needs spirit stones, and you'll have to quest for these powers to continue rebuilding your town.

As with most RPGs, screen shots don't usually go past characters with text boxes over their heads, but there are a few shots of a building appearing out of nowhere. There's also some newer pictures of the saucy, bespectacled personal advisor to Leo, named Chime.

The story is said to take place after the events of the GameCube Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, though this time the game comes as a download, and according to Japanese pricing, it will cost less than $15.

Japan will get the first chance to play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land in March of 2008, though we're still waiting to hear about North American release dates.

No nasty DS to Wii connection like that GBA + Gamecube crap from before?

The real question is how the heck will this fit in my Wii's internal memory? Presumably it'll run off SD right? Well I hope so considering I have very few blocks left as it is thanks to Sin and Punishment and all the other VC games I own. I still wonder if we'll see a Nintendo branded external Hard Drive in future.

I really hope they allow the use of hard drives. There's no way this can fit on the internal memory. On the topic of release dates I really hope they release it around March/Easter time over here too.

Sweet! Glad to see Square updated RPG maker to be compatible with the Wii.

Seriously, how do they crank out so many of these games? /sleep

If you're gonna photoshop text in, try to at least CLONE the bubble instead of just segmenting a selection and then just matting it out with whatever pixel you clicked on to get the reference color.

That speech bubble is made out of rectangles and failiure.

FOR SHAME!

maybe it wasn't a photoshop, but a MSPaint. in that case, it could surely be excused, right?

Maybe it's not a serious shoop since the Japanese name was left in anyways? Anyways I'm more interested in the full DS/Wii titles still.

How is this going to fit on the 512 megs of Wii memory, especially if you have the internet channel downloaded, which takes up a TON of memory.

What happened to the DS Chrystal Chronicals that was supposed to happen? did it get the X or are they going to somehow incorporate both of them or is it something completely separate?

I think this game looks surprisingly good. The graphics have a lot of character; even if the same character can be found in 90% of Square games.

Unfortunately, Wii games never look as crisp blown up on my HDTV.

@Dutch,
The DS version came out already in Japan and is coming out in the US Q2 I believe. I think this is separate from the Wii game The Crystal Bearers, but I could be wrong.

I'd love it if they allowed USB harddrives, because we have some extra ones lying around my apartment.

Ugh, so it looks like Square is sticking with the cute/blocky style they adopted with DS remakes for the Wii. =P

Bah, I guess it was too much to hope for a 'serious' FF game for a Nintendo system ever again.

It looks like Nintendo has no plans at all to release an optional hard drive. It's stupid and inconvenient and makes no sense, but we'll just have to deal with it. :(

Can't you just connect a pen drive to the wii? I mean it's not that hard to support an industry standard, out since 10 years maybe?

Err... I mean for then years :) . BTW I red somewhere, that there's a possibilty to connect a hard drive through an external usb casing? So that means it isn't true... :( But sd cards are quite cheap nowadays...

Looks great, coming from one of the few people who played Crystal Chronicles the way it was meant to be played.

That said, I'm also really concerned about hard drive space like a few other people. We really need a hard drive attachment.
