Scratch this: DJ Hero turntable controller revealed photo

While we've known about DJ Hero since late last year, but beyond the title and the fact that the game was in development, details were somewhat scant (unless of course, you want to go to that official site and listen to endless cheering). However, on the official Twitter page for the game, some new pictures popped up a few hours ago: the very first images of the turntable controller!

It's cool looking, no doubt, but I can't help wonder how it will feel to actually work with. I'm also curious if it actually turns or you just fiddle with the three buttons on top -- it looks like the latter. It's hard to tell the size since there's no point of comparison, but I'd imagine it can't be life-sized -- that's be kind of a pain to store, after all. Who knows? What do you think of this thing?

I would assume you turn it and it would be a "strum" or something while you hold the buttons down to hit "notes" or whatever... just pressing buttons would be the dumbest thing ever. I remember there was a turn-table only game when I was in Japan (not Beatmania, it was JUST turn tables) but I had no frickin' clue how you were supposed to play it...

most importantly, who the hell is going to have a table to set this thing on?

What the...

If it does turn, surely it would be annoying to constantly move your hands over to the buttons, I'm pretty sure DJ's keep their hands in mainly one area. But then, if it doesn't turn, that's just lame.

Reminds me of Beatmania, albeit with far less buttons.

I'd imagine a life-sized turntable would still be quite a bit easier to store than the various drum sets that some of us have accumulated.

Maybe the fake vinyl's a touch-sensitive slidey deal? Ah, y'know, the thing itself doesn't move but it... you get where I'm going with this.

it seems pretty stupid, why wouldn't they put the buttons off of the vinyl so that it would just turn freely and feel more like you are actually scratching?

I'd imagine it would be like modern turntables. It only moves when you want to "scratch".

@Colette Bennett you know, it could be that the top doesnt move but the SIDE does. you see the strobe dots on the side? they would act as a pretty decent grip for you to turn the side, under the vinyl. also @atastysammich could be right about the touch sensitive deal. they already have that pedigree with the guitar hero world tour guitar.

I thought DJ hero was going to be like Beatmania. I don't know how we can play with this if it turns.

this is going to be so fucking restricting, which defeats the purpose of DJing...fucking tiesto and shit they dont DJ, they play songs one after another with hardly any composition...tiesto gets a bit of my respect because he plays like full beach parties. who the fuck wants to mix benny benassi with lady ga ga for 3 hours....weak.

I think there's a few tracks opposite of buttons that you can slide your fingers along to give a more realistic effect in the game.

It's an interesting idea, but I always think the buttons should be the knobs instead of being on the vinyl itself.

Well, we'll see.

Looks pretty interesting. It's still pretty much anyone's guess how actually the controller will work. My guess is that each button is on it's own ring, so you can scratch buttons individually.

Maybe pressing a button is akin to resetting the needle on the vinyl.

Looking at that controller, I am worried. I was hopeful, but now I'm not sure.
@Naim Master:Is that a genre hatred, or is there actually stupid music?

I just hope they don't have Soulja Boy and all this other glam rap bullshit.

Bring on MF Doom and Rakim!

If it turns then it's perfect as it is. I mean, if you ever used a turntable with a mixer, you'd know how hard and overcoming it can be for a rooky. So, the simple they can make it, the better it is.

Ung... they should of just copied the beatmania controller, this looks fucking retarded and way to simple, 3 buttons? really?? This is how you make a DJ game.

Just saying, I think the buttons above the disc look fucking ugly. I really would prefer the fake disc to be plain above or at least only have minor cavities to have a better grip.

To all those saying they should have just ripped off Beatmania, there's a vast majority of people that don't want to play a hip-hop themed dj game to which a big turntable is more suitable, rather than button tapping on a jpop/trance game
