Score another for the UK: Battle Fantasia is coming to both PS3 and 360 photo

Have you seen or played Battle Fantasia? Fighting fans' rabbit ears will perk up right away at the mention of this game from Arc System Works, the Guilty Gear guys. This 2.5D game features characters you'd normally see in an RPG, and they even have hit points. But they're fighting in this case. Here's how RPG-ish this gets: there's rabbit named Watson in a wizard's hat, and he wields a wooden staff. 'Nuff said.

Aksys games recently announced that an Xbox 360 version was coming to North America, with the PS3 version left hanging. Now UK gamers get to rub it in, as 505 Games has just announced that they are publishing the game in Europe for both consoles. Eat that, US PS3 owners. Wait... that's me.

I recently had a chance to play the Xbox 360 version, thanks to Aksys Games. Naturally I played as Watson. The game is a visual treat, with gorgeous art and special lighting effects. I didn't know what I was doing half the time, but the action is fast-paced and fun, and I wanted a copy right then and there.

If all else fails, US PS3 owners, you can always import the Japanese version, which is available now. And if you're one of those that does the Japanese PlayStation Network thing, you can download the demo.

UK gamers, 505 Games will have Battle Fantasia ready for you in the first quarter of 2009.

It seems like only yesterday when 2.5D meant faux 3D using 2D graphics...

I never thought I'd live to see the day that I'd say to US folks "well you can always import it from the UK"

I imported it for PS3 and love it. It's an easy import; the Asian version includes a card with basic control instructions in English.

Wow, I haven't gotten into a fighting game in a while, but between this, Soul Calibur IV, Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter II Turbo HD, and MK v. DC, it looks like I'm going to have my hands full. Are fighting games finally making their mainstream resurgence -- like the 90s, but with fewer shitty games?

Fuck yes. I just found out about this game yesterday and was kinda sad that it was only on PS3. However, it looks like investing in an arcade stick for 360 will be well worth it.
