We don't have enough videogames with pretentious, hard-to-pronounce titles, so here's Topware and Black Wing Foundations with a brand new third-person-shooter for the Xbox 360 and PS3 that they've decided to call Scivelation. I've got that name copied onto my clipboard because there's no way in Hell I'm spelling that correctly on the first try.
TopWare Interactive was responsible for the rather dire X-Blades. However, Black Wing Foundation was responsible for the beloved Stalin vs. The Martians. This points to a game that will not be terrible, but also won't be brilliant. The story revolved around evil dictators and resistence movements. You know, the usual stuff.
Looks like it might be quite cool, if somewhat generic. We'll be keeping an eye on this and see what develops. In the meantime, hit the jump for TopWare's press release, where the game details are divulged, and hit that link for the first screenshots.
“TopWare Interactive has acquired the exclusive worldwide publishing rights to Scivelation, Black Wing Foundation’s ambitious, story driven, action game. Armed with the Unreal III Engine, Scivelation is slated for a mid-2010 release for PC and next-gen consoles.”
“Scivelation will transform the Third-Person Shooter genre into an unrelenting interactive experience, hurling the player into a blockbuster journey, steeped in conflict and veiled in uncertainty.”
“Set in the distant future, Scivelation’s universe is a world born out of the ashes of conflict and misery. An oppressive global dictatorship, known as the Regime, has risen to power after the aftermath of the Apocalypse; aggressively seeking out and eliminating any opposition to their tyrannical government. With this capricious, dystopian reality as a backdrop, the player will take his or her place amongst the ranks of the resistance, waging war throughout the furthest reaches of the globe in this action-packed battle for freedom and survival.”
Does not compute. Unless you mean beloved as in amazing ad campaign for nigh cancer educing bad product.
Step One: Set it in grim futuristic world along with 90% of western action games.
Step Two: Third Person Shooter again like 90% of games.
Step Three: Cut and paste plot of evil guys doing bad things and you seem to be the only person in the world able to stop them. (Bounus points if: You start the game on the bad guys side before realising that killing babies is actually bad and join the nicer than nice 'resistance movement' guys or your family was killed by said bad guys).
Step Four: Give it the worst name ever.
Step Five: Post release blame the games dismal failure on; Piracy, Consumers, the economy, the games industry, the war economy, second hand sales, bad reviews, Chet and anything else you can think of except the actual game itself.
Step Six: Go into pre production on the sequel then go into liquidation...
I appreciate the honesty upfront.
1. Mix equal quantities of grey and near-grey tones.
2. Add a splash of over-saturation to over-compensate.
3. Pour DOF and Bloom until all detail has disappeared in the mixture.
4. Add a pinch of Soldier(tm) in a Mechanized-Body-Armor(tm).
5. Add knobby bits to the armor for apparent flavor.
6. Close your bleeding eyes and randomly pick one or more words from the nearest book/magazine/toilet-paper-instructions
7. Enter the word from step 6 into wikipedia
8. Copy + Paste the entire corresponding wikipedia entry as the second paragraph of your game synopsis.
Are they not allowed to say current generation consoles, or specify PS3 and XBOX 360. I mean seriously these consoles have been out for a couple of years already, there is nothing "next" about them anymore.
Also I'm in agreement with the bland generic feeling this is already putting out. I mean at least make the players take on the role as minority Little People. I'd pay good money for a game with Little People running around blowing shit up, and bad guys yelling "OUTTA THE WAY PECK!" These games with 20-40 year old white normal guys as the main characters are getting annoying.
How the hell do you even pronounce that?
Ski - Vi- Lation?
Skive - Lation?
Sive - Elation?
Si - Vi - Lation?
